When a question was asked about the finish on the siding, Mid America Exteriors (installer) and River Valley Lumber (supplier), along with the Wausau Representative, resolved the question in an excellent manner. Mildew grows into porous wood, making it more difficult to remove than regular dirt (and more destructive). We suggest using a dedicated mildew and mold fungicide to remove mildew, which is found in any local home improvement store. Apply a dose of the fungicide to the siding and leave to work according to the instructions, usually for an hour or two. Then wash it thoroughly away and scrub the spot again. Repeat the process if necessary. If nothing is removing the mildew stains, you should plan on removing those clapboard planks in time, as their damage could cause future problems.
Composite siding is very resistant to warping that can affect some other sidings. Because of its composition, this siding doesn’t have the same risks of moisture damage that can cause rotting, buckling, and warping. Composite material doesn’t warp in high temperatures the way some kinds of vinyl siding can.
That said, composite siding is not entirely immune from moisture damage. It should still be properly installed so that moisture can properly drain from behind the siding, and protected by eaves and clean gutter so the siding doesn’t get repeatedly soaked by rain, which could lead to damage.
Composite siding has excellent insulative properties and one of the highest R-values of siding materials available. Its R-value is 2 to 4; compare that to vinyl, wood, and fiber cement—all of which have R-values under 1. You can boost your siding’s R-value by installing a layer of foam insulation.

Sealing them with a combination of caulk and paint prevents moisture from damaging the paint or decaying the underlying material. You want to ensure the caulk you purchase can be painted over or that you opt for a caulk the same color as the paint.
Insulated vinyl siding costs about twice as much as the cheapest form of vinyl siding, but it’s still more affordable than other types of siding, including fiber cement, wood, stone, and brick.
