"They were very professional and knowledgeable about the product and installation. I could not be happier with the work they did. They finished the work while I was gone on vacation. I did add some items to the original bid. There was a reasonable and expected additional cost for the additions. There was no hassle with the contractor as there are with some contractors when changes are made. The changes were discussed and agreed upon before the work was done. When a question was asked about the finish on the siding, Mid America Exteriors (installer) and River Valley Lumber (supplier), along with the Wausau Representative, resolved the question in an excellent manner. "Both jobs were unusual. First was in a plaster and lathe ceiling. Second was on a very tall chimney. These craftsmen are great. I have tight scheduling and when you make an appointment, you make an appointment. I was really nervous about how much they charge (why I started with a small job ;-]). Don't be. Give them a try."
"I had a new shower installed in Feb 2019. Jamie, the salesperson was very thorough and detailed when providing the estimate. The installer explained what he was going to do and ensured he would keep everything neat during the project. He covered the carpet so not to track dirt into the house. He cleaned up nicely when he was done. I truly enjoyed the walking shower. It was better than imagined. It even added value to my house when I recently sold it! It was also very easy to clean. You can't go wrong. Everyone was professional and respectful."
"John came out to install a single window. Other contractors through home advisor came out and wouldn't follow up because the job was too small. John came out, it was easy to set an appointment with him. He arrived on time and ended up giving me a timely quote and honest timeline on when the work could be done since I had a special order window. Once the window arrived he put it in the following day. Great communication. Will recommended!"
"They have done 2 roofs for me and are scheduled to do another later this week. I also had solar installed on my home and I am pleased not only with the work but the customer service."
"Kape roofing did an amazing job on my roof. Itâ s been a couple of years now and it still looks amazing and has zero issues. They also did my siding. My house is the best looking house on the block! Will 100% recommend them to everyone I know! Thank you kape roofing!"
"Ryan came to introduce us to all the products. Hes very knowledgeable and really convinced us to buy. We canceled all other salesman after meeting him. We cannot wait to get our new doors and windows. The product sells itself! We couldnt be happier with our decision to buy champion!!"
You can put new siding over clapboards, but it’s not recommended. Some sidings, like vinyl siding, can go over clapboards with sheathing like a foam layer in between. However, it’s best to remove clapboard siding if you plan on replacing it with new siding. Burying wood clapboards underneath new siding can create risks of rot and mold, or hidden insect damage. It can also create warping issues over time. Removing clapboards allows you to properly install a new sheathing, as well as clean up the exterior wall and look for any signs of damage.
Hail as small as 3/4 inch (about the size of a penny) can cause damage to your siding. When hail reaches 1 inch in size, you can expect to see more cracks, chips, and holes, and hail that’s 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 inches around will cause significant damage. If you see hail that’s 1 and 1/2 inches to 2 inches or more in size, the damage is likely to be extensive and possibly even dangerous.
Both vinyl and metal are very popular siding options, and it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of each before making a decision for your home. Vinyl has a lower price point than metal and is easier to install, but metal siding is more durable, longer-lasting, and requires much less maintenance. The upfront costs could save you money in the long run.
You can calculate the required square footage of siding you need by measuring the height and width of your home’s rectangular exterior walls. For the triangular-shaped gable walls, measure the height from the ground to the tallest gable point to make sure you have enough for good coverage. Once you have combined the totals for each wall, add another 10% to account for wasted materials. It’s also good to have extra siding on hand to tackle wood siding repair down the road.
Yes, you can install siding over stucco, but it's crucial to ensure the stucco is in good condition first. Before proceeding, inspect the stucco for any signs of damage, leaks, or mold growth. If you discover water damage, mold, or have ongoing leak issues, it's recommended to remove the stucco completely. This step prevents future problems like mold and pest infestations and allows a professional to repair or replace any damaged sheathing underneath. If the stucco is sound, the installation process involves attaching furring strips to the wall's framing directly through the stucco. The new siding is then installed onto these furring strips. A professional may also need to adjust window and door openings to prevent them from being recessed behind the new siding, which can cause aesthetic issues and create potential leak points.
