"Electrical work was good. Could have been a little better at restoring the wall panel. Price felt a little high but overall happy with the service."

"This is the fourth time we've used McCormick Electrical. The company's scheduling, coordinating, and reminding of service times is extremely helpful. Even better is the level of service. Our technician provides the blend of competence and friendliness we seek when paying for a service."

"Rick is an outstanding electrician and an honest and honorable man. He will take good care of your electrical needs and you can trust him to do good work at a fair price. I would definitely hire him again the next time I need an electrician and would have no hesitation in recommending him to friends."

"They showed up at 8:15 am (appointment was for 8:30-9:00 am)  Prior to the appointment we were told this would take 5-6 hours.  They were completely done by 11:15.  They placed the unit, installed the gas service, installed and configured the transfer switch, tested the fail-over and fail-back, checked all pilot lights in the house and gave an overview of the operation of the unit and there 24/7 service agreement.  All in all, we could not have asked for a better experience.  I would recommend them to anybody looking for a stand-by electrical generator system.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Your breaker box houses the breakers that control the circuits in your home, shutting them off if they overload or experience similar problems. Your meter box houses your electrical meter that monitors the electricity flowing into your house and measures its use for your utility company.

In some cases, both components are in the same box, but they don’t have to be together. Many homes have them split, with the breaker box inside for easier access and the electric meter outside.

You can install a three-prong outlet without connecting any ground and plug in three-prong electronics into that outlet. The devices will function normally, but you won’t get any of the protection that grounding provides, so there’s an increased risk of serious problems if something goes wrong.

The easiest way to determine the amperage of your electrical outlets is to check the corresponding breaker in your home’s breaker panel. The number is likely noted on the circuit breaker. If that fails, it’s possible to tell 15-amp and 20-amp outlets apart by looking at them. Fifteen-amp outlets have two vertical holes, while 20-amp outlets have one vertical hole and one T-shaped hole.

To fix a tripped light switch, locate your home's electrical panel and identify the tripped circuit breaker. It will be in the "off" or neutral position. Flip the breaker entirely to the "off" position, then switch it back to the "on" position. If the breaker trips again immediately, there may be a short circuit or overload in the system, requiring further investigation. If the switch still doesn't work after resetting the breaker, check for loose wires or faulty components in the switch itself. It is always best to consult a licensed electrician for persistent issues and when in doubt.

Yes, you should get a quote or an estimate from an electrician. Most electricians offer free estimates or quotes. When getting quotes, do your research and verify each electrician’s license. Get quotes from three different electricians to compare. If the prices or items listed appear different on the quotes, ask the electrician to clarify. Learning as much as you can about the electrical work you want done will help you get the most accurate estimate.
