"I called Ace Fence and spoke with Doug the owner on Wednesday. He asked me to text him photos of the fence and would quote me right over the phone, which he did! He called back and said he would be able to come the next day to fix the gate, which he did! He came Thursday and repaired the fence to our gate within an hour! He was very easy to work with and would highly recommend him & his team!"

"I searched HomeAdvisor for a professional to do some repair work on my wooden fence. I was contacted the next day by the brothers and they agreed to come to my home to estimate the work. We negotiated a price and I hired them within a week of our initial meeting. They agreed to one half down to start the work. Due to a lot of bad weather the start of the work was delayed. But once the weather co-operated they began work. They came out and pulled the old posts and installed new ones the first day. Within two days from that they completed the work. They work professionally and and are both nice to work with."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

You’ve likely been considering lots of wood fence ideas for your yard. There are many reasons why people choose split rail fences time and again. For one, they’re one of the most wallet-friendly fencing options, especially since you don’t need to use much hardware and setting the posts doesn’t require concrete or foam. So if you have a large property and want to fence it in, your best bet may be a split rail fence.

Yes, fence posts need to be installed below the frost line to ensure stability and prevent heaving caused by freezing and thawing cycles. The frost line is the depth at which soil freezes during winter. By placing posts below this line, often around 3 to 4 feet deep or as recommended for your specific region, you reduce the risk of the ground shifting, which can lead to leaning or unstable fences. Adequate depth provides better anchoring and helps maintain the fence's integrity, ensuring it remains secure and upright throughout changing seasons.

A bamboo fence can last up to 20 years when properly installed and maintained. Bamboo is a durable material, but to get the most life out of it, you should clean and seal the fence every few years. Staining the bamboo can also restore the appearance if the color fades over time. Use screws to fasten the bamboo, rather than twine, to ensure the bamboo fence stays together longer.

Regular cleaning, rust-proof coatings, and checking fasteners help prolong the lifespan.

Yes, installing a picket fence is a manageable DIY project for homeowners with basic tools and some patience. The process involves marking the fence line, digging post holes, setting the posts, and attaching horizontal rails and pickets. However, precision is key to ensure the fence is straight and sturdy, which can be challenging for beginners. If the fence line is long, the ground is uneven, or you’re working with more complex materials like metal or composite, hiring a pro may be a better option.
