"We are beyond pleased with the work. The Sotos crew placed down wood to protect the sod around the areas they were working and during the concrete pour put up plastic sheeting to protect the surrounding area. The crew was very professional and cleaned up after themselves each day. They matched finish texture to the adjoining concrete and blends well with the existing concrete in both locations. We would hire Sotos Concrete again."

"They were able to correct the concrete settlement eliminating trip points and areas where water was standing. This was an excellent alternative to replacing the concrete segments where the problem existed."

"We called them out for a unique project in our downstairs and they did amazing work! Our floor was cracked and not level. The pictures don’t do the project justice, but we now have a level floor that will be the foundation we need to continue our renovation. They also knocked down a concrete block wall and really opened up the space. If you’re looking for good quality at the good price and the friendliest workers around, hire these guys!"

"Lack of clean-up drops Champion into the "B" category. We had to clean our deck and outside doors/windows ourselves after the tracking and splashing involved in concrete cutting and pouring, and we had to clean the mud and dirt from our new concrete floor after the room was built before we could carpet. Otherwise a very positive experience from sales call (Greg Adler) to completion. Though completion seemed to take quite a bit longer than we were told, a holiday may have slowed things. Work crews showed up when we were told they would, we just didn't often know more than a day in advance when that might be. Competitive pricing, good quality and workmanship and extensive warranties win our recommendation over the several other companies we had bid for the job."

Concrete Mudjacking questions, answered by experts

Most houses are expected to settle over time, but foundation sinking of more than a few inches or uneven sinking of more than an inch for every 20 feet is cause for concern. Any significant or uneven sinking should be assessed by a professional to determine the cause and perform any necessary repairs.

Pros often use mudjacking or polyurethane foam injection to level a sunken concrete patio. Both methods lift the slab by filling voids beneath it. After properly compacting the soil beneath it to prevent future settling, the concrete may need to be removed and re-poured for severe sinking.

Concrete leveling can last anywhere from five to 10 years or more, and in some cases, it can be a permanent solution. The longevity depends on the method used and whether the underlying cause of the sinking is addressed. For example, mudjacking typically lasts five to 10 years, while polyjacking can last for 20 years or more. It's best to consult a professional for an accurate timeline based on your specific situation and any factors that could cause the issue to recur.

Mudjacking typically takes 24 to 72 hours (one to three days) to dry and cure completely before you can resume normal use. The exact time can vary depending on the size of the project. Because the slurry mixture contains cement, it must fully harden to ensure that added weight from walking, furniture, or vehicles won't shift the concrete slab. A professional contractor can advise you on when the surface is safe to use. For comparison, if you use polyjacking instead, the polyurethane foam can dry in just a few minutes, but it's best to wait about an hour before use.

Polyjacking and mudjacking can both be effective solutions for sinking concrete, but they have key differences. Polyjacking, which uses expanding polyurethane foam, is often considered a better option because the foam is significantly lighter than the cementitious material used for mudjacking. This reduced weight puts less pressure on the underlying soil and lowers the risk of future sinking. Polyjacking is suitable for any sinking concrete slab, while mudjacking is typically only recommended for non-structural concrete, such as sidewalks, patios, pool decks, and driveways. The primary drawback of polyjacking is its cost, which can be up to four times higher than mudjacking—as much as $25 per square foot compared to a maximum of about $6 per square foot for mudjacking.
