"They've done an absolutely amazing job for me by installing a brand new roof on my home. It was an excellent job, done in a timely matter, they cleaned up after themselves and I can not think of a single thing bad to say about their service."

"We had MAJOR water damage in our three season porch floor and a 25-year old rotting deck. NO ONE wanted this job. It was too big and too scary, literally. Imagine the complexity of removing everything from under a roof without removing the roof? Alan was the only company who quoted this project. He even wrote two proposals. One to try to help us get the insurance company to cover some of the expense and one if insurance would not cover us. He went to a lot of work for us with no pay up front. His exceptional record here on HomeAdvisor convinced us this was the guy to use. In short, he and his crew did everything that they promised. Our neighbors came over and said they had never seen a furniture grade deck before! We simply could not be any happier. Alan is the real deal. A true gentleman and craftsman with a great crew too."

"Lahr Tile is a family owned business who is very conscientious about doing high quality work. They completed a pretty large flooring project for me actually earlier than expected. They took time to keep the area clean which really impressed me. Customer service was excellent as everything went according to plan. If I could include a photo of our newly renovated basement, I definitely would. We are very happy and would definitely hire them AND recommend them to our family and friends."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, but you’ll have to use some other type of tool to avoid damaging the tile and possibly injuring yourself. Some alternatives to tile cutters include a glass cutter, angle grinder, and wet saw. Depending on the tile material, you might simply be able to measure and score it with something sharp, like a carbide-tipped pencil, and break it off. Be sure to sand the edge for a smooth installation.

Glazed ceramic tiles don’t need to be sealed because the glazing already offers some protection against moisture. Unglazed ceramic tiles need to be sealed to keep the porous tile safe from moisture and staining. However, both types of tile can benefit from sealing. Sealant can make the tiles easier to keep clean and offer more resistance to water, spills, and stains.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

Terracotta tile is a broad term for clay tile that’s been fired in a kiln, and Saltillo tile is a specific type of terracotta tile produced in Saltillo, Mexico. In addition to Saltillo, terracotta tile comes in a range of other shades and styles. You’ll often find it used in buildings throughout Mexico, southern Europe, and the western United States.

One major drawback of a concrete tile roof is that the material is heavier than most other roofing materials, so there’s a good chance you’ll need structural reinforcements for your home before you can install the roofing material. Concrete tile roofs are also twice as expensive as asphalt shingle roofs, so even though they last much longer, you’ll see higher up-front costs and lower overall value from concrete roof tiles.
