"Steve and his employees did an immaculate job restoring the walls of the home I inherited from my grandparents. 80% of the house had wallpaper from 1981. Project was started and completed on time and perfectly. Here's what went right :

• -  The wallpaper removal job went smoothly, and the workmen vacuumed and cleaned afterwards.

• -  One of the workmen carried away 2 bags of debris from the wallpaper job, after I mentioned that I had no easy way to dispose of them personally. This was much appreciated.

• Here's what went wrong :

• -  This provider twice cancelled scheduled appointments ? in both cases minutes before arrival time.

• • -  Rescheduling the first appointment was difficult, as the provider did not respond to my emails or phone calls. I eventually had to ask the Angie team to facilitate rescheduling.

  • -  Despite my repeated requests for changes to be communicated to me by phone (I do not have a smart phone which captures email, and it is not possible for me to constantly check personal email for possible messages because of work commitments), the owner refused to comply. The reason he gave is that Angie urges its providers to use email in order to preserve copies of communications -- which is understandable. However, given client preferences, it is always possible to call, then follow up with an email for the record. This awkward method of communication made the cancellations and rescheduling even more personally inconvenient.

  • -  Prior to painting, I covered some of the furniture with sheets, and left drop cloths to cover the rest after the pieces had been moved away from the walls; however, the cloths were not used and the top of a hutch now contains drops of white paint from when the ceiling was painted.

  • -  The painting job was sub-standard. There were 2 patches on the wall which were not fully covered and in which the underlying wall showed through. In addition, the painter did not remove a wall vent before painting, instead painting around and slightly over the edges of the vent. This resulted in small patches of paint peeling off when I removed the vent to clean it a week and a half after the job was completed. I had to repair all of these defects personally.

  • -  The owner indicated he would call me after the final work was completed to ensure everything was satisfactory. I did not hear from him.

"These guys are first-rate. I've worked with four of them now, including the company president Michael O'Brien, and they are each exceptional in quality, attention to detail, and courteous service. I had two sets of closet doors delivered to a store near one of their homes, and he picked up and delivered the doors both times for me. This is just one of several examples in which they worked in making things as easy as possible for me. The initial week-long visit and a second occasion when I hired them again meant huge leaps forward for my home, and I have come to trust that they will show up and get the job done.  The Angie's List special was a steal; it was sobering to hire them for a single day and have a higher price.  But MPO is worth it, especially as part of this last visit consisted of setting right work I'd had done by others before I found these guys:  they are my answer to home repair and construction jobs!

"The guy’s name is Jason Mesman.  His estimate was way too high to do the interior demolition.  He didn’t charge me for coming out.  We walked around and he gave me some ideas.  It’s just that his interior demolition costed higher than the others that I had called.  He was a little more expensive but at least he came out.  I called some of the other people and I can’t remember who it was, but they didn’t even want to come out.  They come out only if you really want to do something.  This guy was willing to come out and he gave me a free estimate.  The other guy gave me a higher estimate and he was emailing me.  He was very persistent on his follow up which is good, and that’s good business sense.  When I told him that I got two other estimates that were lower, and I gave him the amount but I did not tell him the company name, he then did lower his estimate.  He was willing to negotiate and work with me.  He’s very responsive.  I will probably not use his services again in the future as I had a better flow with the guy from another company and I got a lower price there."
