Klemp Construction & Remodeling

The owner, Brandon, came to our home to check over the work we wanted done and seemed to know what we wanted and how to do it. He had another man with him that answered most of our questions and we thought he was the actual carpenter. Because of weather, the job was delayed a few days and another day when Brandon thought weather may be a factor in completing job. He said it was a one day job. The job was started Monday, May 2, continuing May 3, with a couple trips to get the correct wood. The workers were Brandon and another man we hadn't seen before. He acted as the assistant. Noticing gaps where spindles met bottom rail and where bottom rails met posts, I questioned how that was going to be fixed. They said caulk. I said it was too wide for caulk and should not be that wide a gap, or no gap. Then they said it would be covered by post trim. When the trim was done, we all admired how it all looked. It was the evening and we didn't go outside again until the next day, when I saw a split in the bottom rail where a screw was going into a post and several spindles were turned . While checking them, I found all the spindles were loose and could be twirled around and several were cut short. Also, a piece of the post trim was just plopped in a space, not nailed at all. I called Brandon and he assured me he would be out, not that day, but the next, on a Fr. Our painter came out that day to see what needed to be done to prepare for painting porch. He was surprised at the workmanship. He pointed out only one finish nail in the 8" trim and shoe molding around posts and gaps everywhere he'd have to caulk to look finished. The one nail worked in our favor, though, because we need to remove all the wood that is on the concrete porch floor so we can paint it first. Otherwise, moisture will wick up and have the small wood pieces moving around. When we finish painting, we will make sure it is all nailed securely. Brandon and helper just left a while ago. I'm not sure what transpired, but I do know husband was very angry! Husband is outside preparing to do the fixes himself. This isn't why we hire professionals. I am so disappointed, as Klemp Const. got good reviews on Angie's. Once again, no matter what reviews are given, due diligence is a must.

Almost as important as a job well done was the level of professionalism that crew showed.  The craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident . It was  great to work with a company that knows how things should be done and worked with us to come up with and execute the best solutions.  They were not only prompt to return our calls, but also would call or text us with updates.  We would recommend Klemp without reservation to anybody looking for a contractor and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Everything went well.  All work was explained and bid before starting work.  He worked with me on the selection of materials and price range.  He went the extra effort to fix all large as well as small repairs.  It was sad to have to redo so much when it had just been done but Brandon completed all the repairs to make it as nice as before.  He did any repair I asked with good quality and a fair price.

Brandon was excellent to work with.  He has high standards and made sure everything was done well.  He also was very patient when I wanted to change or add something.  I was always amazed at his wealth of knowledge and skill.
