"Regarding our experience with the Avon, IN, Rockville Road location: Communication was poor between sales and install teams, and lack of humility and issue resolution. Owner, Glenn, was the road block rather than a facilitator to issue resolution. Sales portion of the interaction was good. Our salesperson was polite and respectful, and offered ideas. Laser measurement did not go very well. Glenn was present for the laser measure. He was carrying on with his apprentice rather than focusing on the task at hand or communicating with his customer. We then received a call later that day asking us to make our house available on another day for them to come back and repeat a step of the measurement that they had forgotten. We obliged, but she arrived at the house in the very last 5 minutes of the 2 hour window, an inconvenience. The Cambria countertop install went fine, and the result is as expected. However, the backsplash was measured wrong and had to be re-cut on the install day. I can imagine this goes back to the laser measure day, poorly executed. The plumbing portion went poorly. Communication between teams was poor, as our expectation was not transmitted to keep our current disposal unit and not replace it. The plumber messed up the wiring in the junction box, and left a loose wire. He reports there was a short circuit while he was working. He should have not touched the wiring since we specifically asked for the disposal not to be replaced since ours was less than 1 year old and a nice one. Here's where things went bad: My wife experienced that the dishwasher did not work after the plumber left. She noticed a smell of burning in the kitchen when the dishwasher first started up. She reported this to the salesperson at Kitchen Master. We then got a follow up email from Glenn explaining how it was our problem and we needed to hire an appliance repair person to address the wiring issue. He said it wasn't in his scope of work to address the issue. He never asked more about the issue or tried to diagnose or understand, nor ask anyone else on his team to do the same. When I got home, I discovered that the water supply to the dishwasher was not turned back on by the plumber. That's why the burning smell from the dishwasher heating element.... I did hire a technician to address the junction box wiring and he told me that the last person in the box (the plumber) left a loose wire which would have become an issue. I tried to explain the above to Glenn. He was argumentative. He has threatened to send us to collections and put a lien on our house, instead of acknowledging any issues that could have been handled better by him and his team. Mind you that work was just completed in the last 3-4 business days as we're discussing this. Glenn has chased me back to the big box stores like Lowe's and Menards. One can occasionally expect to have an issue during a project, and it is how the vendor responds and remedies the issue with the customer that counts. Kitchen Masters has not acknowledged any of their shortcomings let alone attempted to make it right by us, the customers. Poor communication between staff teams and lack of humility by the owner, Glenn, has left us wishing we had gone elsewhere."

FAQs for cabinet refacing and refinishing projects in Indianapolis, IN

The cost of cabinet refacing is $7,230 on average. However, it's possible to pay between $1,200 and $16,000 for this project. Factors like the number of cabinets and the refacing materials impact the total cost significantly.

For example, plastic laminate is the most cost-effective cabinet option for refacing, costing $1,000 to $3,000. If you're looking for solid wood cabinets, you can expect to pay more, ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 on average for refacing.

The difference between cabinet refinishing vs. cabinet refacing is that the latter involves replacing most of the cabinet components, whereas the former only freshes the exterior look of the cabinetry.

Cabinet refinishing involves the cabinetry being disassembled, cleaned, and sanded, then a new finish, like paint or glaze, is applied. You can refinish the cabinet doors or go further and refinish the cabinet boxes, too.

Cabinet refacing involves replacing the majority of the cabinet materials, including the cabinet, drawer doors, and hardware. In this process, a veneer is applied over the existing cabinet boxes to make them look new.

The cost to refinish cabinets is $3,000 on average. However, this cost can range from $700 to $6,000, depending on the size and location of the cabinets, the refinishing method, and number of cabinets.

Staining your cabinet doors is the most cost-effective option, costing between $4 and $10 per square foot. However, if you choose to glaze them, that price jumps to $10 to $25 per square foot

While it’s possible to reface or refinish kitchen cabinets yourself, it requires substantial time, money, and sweat equity. In particular, cabinet refacing requires many tools and materials, costing you between $1,645 and $6,570, depending on what you already own. Besides that, this is a project that shows imperfections easily. If carpentry isn't your strong suit, hiring a cabinet professional is best to ensure high-quality results.

To prepare for cabinet refinishing or refacing, it’s important to remove all items from the cabinetry in question. In addition, clear any clutter from the room, whether it's the kitchen, bathroom, or otherwise. Be sure to have additional cabinet materials, such as cabinet hardware, lights, and glass inserts, ready for your cabinet installer to use.

Finally, if you have pets, ensure they are in a safe, separate location away from your cabinet professionals, who will bring materials in and out of your home during the process.
