"I met Martin from Mr.Sparky, All I had to do was tell him what I needed, he went to work immediately then he came upstairs and installed the second fan in my master bedroom. He was very knowledgeable and he explained everything he was doing and he was very nice and very helpful and he was extremely knowledgeable I think he could do it with his eyes closed but he was very clean and when he was done he took the time to make sure he had everything ready to go. I was so happy with Martin. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any electrical work that needs to be done. So impressed with his company and him, I couldnâ t be happier. Thank you for the opportunity to meet Martin and to share his story with you. Thanks again!!"

"He and his assistant were prompt, never complained about The terrible hot attic they had to work in to switch out a new Bluetooth bathroom exhaust fan. Walter Huyck is also a Veteran like myself and we felt really good about hiring him! He was very friendly, professional and did a great job!, even cleaned up afterwards! We have a beautiful light/exhaust fan that plays music at a touch now!!"

"The owner Pat came out to run wiring and hang our new ceiling fan. His wife (very nice) joined Pat as this is a husband wife team. They were both repectful and professional. Pat's wife was the one in the attic doing the work up there while Pat was in the living cutting the hole in the ceiling and hanging the fan. I would reccomend them to family and friends. As I had a good experience. We will be calling them in the future for more work. I hope this helps."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.

If you’re replacing an old fixture with a ceiling fan, you usually won’t need a permit, but if your electrician runs new wiring for the fixture, you likely will need a permit. Building permits are necessary in most municipalities if you’re making changes to your electrical system, so even if you have partial wiring run to the area and need new wiring installed for added functionality, you’ll probably need a permit. Your electrician should be able to let you know if you need one, and they’ll typically file the paperwork for you.
