"They came out to inspect the damage right away to inspect the damage to our house. The roof, siding, gutter, and deck had been damaged due to a tornado. They came our early the next week to repair the house. The work was expertly done and quickly completed. They did not cut any corners. Their price was fair and quality of work was excellent. We would hire them again."

"My husband and I were finally ready to take the step of building a garage but didn’t know who to use so submitted a request. Within minutes Scott called to schedule an appointment with us. He came to our home and made sure to have a full understanding of our vision and answered all the questions we had. To our surprise he presented pricing to us in that first visit! We agreed to move forward and within weeks the crew broke ground and began the build, Scott was readily available to assist in anything we needed through the entire process. We still find ourselves shocked at the quality of work performed and in such a timely manner. We love having a safe place for our cars and some storage and would highly recommend Americas Best!"

Stucco questions, answered by experts

A standard drill will work just fine if you’re drilling small holes, and only a few of them. But anything with a diameter larger than 3/8 inch is best done with a hammer drill, since it is stronger, faster, and also makes your drill bits last longer. While you don’t absolutely need a hammer drill for stucco, it is a worthy investment if you think you might drill more holes down the road.

One of the most significant downsides to stucco is the installation cost, which is higher than that of many other siding options because getting it to look clean and professional is a labor-intensive process. Stucco can also absorb water, making it an unsuitable option for siding in areas that see excessive rainfall. Finally, stucco can crack and chip, especially in extreme weather, and repairs are not only challenging and require help from a professional who does stucco, but can get expensive.

You should aim to let stucco dry for at least 48 hours before it rains. While misting new stucco and keeping it moderately moist is important for strength and longevity, uncontrolled exposure to rain can lead to weak stucco that doesn’t bond properly. Rain can also affect the stucco finish and the color unevenly, leaving you with less appealing siding.

Stucco is very challenging to DIY, so it’s always best to leave the work to professional stucco contractors. The same recommendation applies to painting a stucco house, which should be left in the reliable hands of a professional exterior painter. Inexperienced DIYers can make several critical mistakes during stucco application, such as:

  • Failing to apply sufficiently thick layers for longevity and water resistance

  • Uneven application

  • Uneven texture across the exterior

  • Mixing the stucco improperly, leaving a weak structure

  • Failing to texture properly in between coats, leading to cracking and chipping

All of the components of stucco are non-combustible, so the siding material won’t ignite or spread fire to the interior of your home. However, it also expands and contracts with changes in temperature, so it will crack from long exposure to heat. Eventually, fire will spread through those cracks. Still, stucco is one of the best siding materials for fire protection and can keep you and your family safe for an hour, on average.
