I’m a hardworking person who doesn’t like to leave projects half finished or looking sloppy, I can be a bit of a perfectionist. I’ve always fixed and built almost everything I needed myself and I take pride in being self sufficient. I’ve been an electrician for a year and half now and before that I was fabricating aerators for private residences. I have a wife and two children, so I can handle the chaos of a whole house remodel even if you decide to alter any details halfway through.

"I highly recommend JJC for any remodeling/upgrade project. I hired this company to upgrade my kitchen and they did a fantastic job. They are all about keeping the customer happy. They completed the job in a timely and efficient manner. They have a great work ethic. I will definitely be contracting them again for my next project."

"Schedule to do the work at noon on Saturday. Did call at 11:00 a.m. because they had a tire blowout and let me know he would be a couple hours late. But they did show up when they said they would. Tree was trimmed excellently. Just what I wanted. All of the haul away was done. Yard was cleaned up exactly the way it looked before arrival. Could not be happier. Are planning on having them back to trim another tree."

"Did a wonderful job. He completed most of the work himself, and was here if anyone else was here that was working for him. He was very professional and courteous, and was even great with my kids. I would highly recommend him to anyone that has constuction needs, including a friend that he is already doing work for."

Small jobs welcome

"It was difficult to clearly communicate the scope of work to the contractor because the contractor appeared not to be proficient with English and his translator had trouble with English too. Another primary issue appeared to be that the job appeared more than what the contractor could handle and beyond his capabilities; however, he was recommended by a HomeAdvisor customer service rep as a capable service provider. The contractor under-performed, but provided an acceptable resolution by resigning from the job at a cost that was less than the agreed upon price. Payment had to be negotiated down because the work he completed was only a fraction of the scope that we had communicated to him was to be done. The root cause in understanding appears to be contractor did not speak or understand fluent English."

"Abbott Stone and Tile did an amazing job of installing glass and stone tile on the wall between our set of floating shelves. It looks incredibly beautiful and they worked efficiently, finishing the job in less time than I would have guessed. Dave Abbott does not pawn off his work to less-skilled others; he wants the end-product to look fantastic and he assures that by maintaining a very high standard. And it was a great deal for the money! Thank you Abbott Stone and Tile!!!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

There are no unbreakable rules of design, but experts recommend against using large tiles in areas with poor subflooring where they’re more prone to cracking, in areas where the floor isn’t entirely level, over raised areas or dips, and in bathrooms where budget is the primary concern. The size of your bathroom shouldn’t be a reason not to use large tiles; in fact, larger tiles, also known as slab tiles, can be a modern and sleek choice for bathroom floors and walls.

Here’s another instance of where the answer is you could, but that doesn’t mean you should. Yes, part of the issue is getting the drywall to stay in place on the tiles, and it’s understandable that screws will crack the tiles and cause them to crumble. That’s why it’s a much better idea to screw drywall into studs, not your porcelain or ceramic tile. But aside from issues with attaching the drywall, it’s also about ensuring a smooth application without trapping moisture inside.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

Options include clay, concrete, and slate tiles. Each offers unique durability, aesthetics, and costs.

Penny tile should be sealed to protect the grout from moisture and keep stains from damaging the look of the tile. If penny tile is in a humid or high-traffic area, like a bathroom, kitchen, or entryway, it needs sealant. Any type of tile and grout is best maintained with a sealant reapplied by a pro every one to two years.
