"We dealt with the owner, Mark Spencer, directly.  The process was virtually seamless from start to finish.  It was very reassuring to work with the owner.  He knows a ton about windows and home improvements in general (as also a general contractor).  He was more interested in finding out what we wanted than selling us on anything in particular.  That was a breath of fresh air for sure after looking at some other companies that send sales people to your door.  A lot was riding on this purchase, so we were glad to work with someone that knew what they were doing.  We decided on his company because of his experience and knowing that the relationship was important to him so he would take care of us.  We made a great choice.
During installation his crew was very experienced and professional.  I felt comfortable having these guys around the house.  I had planned to work from home, but after talking to them a little bit I just left them with my cell number and told them to let me know if they needed anything.  My wife was in and out through the whole project.  They finished most of the inside of our house on the first day (getting the windows actually installed).  They completed the big bow window and the sliding door on the second day and finished up the metal work the next morning.  When they were gone you would have never known they had ever been there...other than the brand new windows.  They were fantastic!
Our house was built in 1982 and our old windows were our driving source of energy inefficiency.  We did online research for almost a year (on and off) and when we got serious we had a couple of companies over.  One thing I learned is that a lot of window companies use the exact same manufacturer to build their windows, they just slap their name tag on them (and they can tweak the design...most likely for style...and the prices for the same windows vary like you wouldn't believe).  One company in particular was trying to sell us on the foam and metal material used for installation (claiming their stuff was the best).  I later found out that Mark's company was using the exact same materials.  In the end, I highly recommend Legacy Window & Door.  No gimmicks and a great product!

"The owner came to our Terre Haute home to offer a free estimate, along with suggestions on how we could get the best use out of the space and options for construction.  He was flexible and offered to bid the project with different options and combinations.  The work began in a timely manner by workers who were prompt, courteous and productive.  Apart from electricity, they required nothing of us and went about their business.  The result was a lovely sunroom that my wife and I can enjoy year round.  The construction was solid and attractive, adding value to the home.

There was one small glitch, in that they sub-contracted the gutters out to another small company.  We went through two torrential rains before we could get them out to complete the work.  We were able to contact Barrier and they got the contractor to come out and finish the job, which when finished, was nicely done.

My wife and I are very pleased with the entire experience.  These guys were not the cheapest around, but if you want quality work, it is well worth having them do the job."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters. Also, keep in mind that living space conversions may require upgrading the foundation underneath, and the permits might be more expensive as well.
