Contractor claimed to have arborists who could assess the issue with our trees. Contractor arrived and stated they only did tree and stump removal. This company wasted my time. Falsely represented their credentials. Do not hire this contractor for anything.

Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.
Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

Barring any large fires or explosions, it’s difficult to tell how much damage a lightning strike has done until after a thorough inspection. Contact local authorities immediately if lightning strikes a tree in your yard and it causes a fire or explosion.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.
