Customers say: True professional

"MNM Painting and Decorating did an amazing job. They are reliable, quick, affordable and use quality materials. No corners were cut. As a first time home buyer of a previous owned home, my property needed help. Guillermo came out provided a quote and consulted on the project. He was upfront honest and transparent. I highly recommend Guillermo and his team for your project needs. You won’t regret it. I now have peace of mind when I receive visitors and will be contacting them for other projects needs in the near future. This is a team you will want to keep."

Small jobs welcome

"Lawrence was great! Recommended paint colors for a complicated kitchen...I never would havve selected them, but they turned out to be perfect with the existing cabinets and new floors. He also removed wallpaper and addressed a bathroom with several drywall issues as well as other imperfections in the house. His work was meticulous and every wall and ceiling looks perfect. He was always on time and got along great with my dog, who actually started waiting at the window each morning for him to come. Bonus!!! Best part, he quotes a price up front and honors the price regardless of how long it takes. No surprises. I would highly recommend Lawrence!!!"

"Jason repainted our wrought iron fence. It had a lot of rust on it, so a lot of grinding was required to prep it for paint. That took a day. On day 2 he did the painting. The fence looks great, the paint was applied liberally yet evenly, and Jason is very nice and very easy to work with.

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

In most cases, it is not recommended to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, as the success depends on the type of paper already on the wall. While you might be able to cover non-coated wallpaper, you should never apply new wallpaper over a vinyl-coated one, which is more common. Doing so can lead to poor adhesion, resulting in bubbles, imperfections, and peeling. It can also trap moisture, potentially causing hazardous mold growth between the layers.

Even if the existing wallpaper is suitable, experts recommend applying only one new layer. Adding multiple layers (more than two total) can cause significant adhesion problems, leading to warping and bubbling. For the best results, the recommended approach is to remove the old wallpaper and all paste residue before hanging the new paper. If you are unsure about your wallpaper type, consider consulting a professional.

To layer wallpaper over wallpaper, inspect your existing wallpaper for problem areas. Damaged wallpaper should not be covered. If it’s okay to proceed, prep by turning off the electricity and removing any outlet and switch covers. Dust your walls and lightly rinse them to prevent the existing paper from peeling. Apply primer, then apply your new wallpaper.

Yes, you can put wallpaper in a bathroom, but whether it's a good idea depends on several factors. Because bathrooms are high-humidity areas, it's crucial to choose a water-resistant wallpaper, such as one made of vinyl. Proper wall preparation is also critical to ensure the paper adheres well, even after many steamy showers. The wallpaper's placement also affects its longevity; it will hold up better on an accent wall or away from direct water contact, rather than immediately next to a shower. A well-ventilated bathroom will yield the best results.

Your peel-and-stick wallpaper can fall off for multiple reasons, including high humidity levels, extreme temperature changes, poor installation, and even the wall surface. Textured walls can prevent the adhesive from fully sticking to the wall, making it more likely for the wallpaper to peel off. Low-quality wallpapers with weaker adhesives are also more likely to fall off prematurely.
