When deciding whether to reupholster, repair, or replace old furniture, consider its age, level of wear and tear, and overall value. It’s usually better to repair old furniture because older pieces tend to be made out of hardwood, like oak and maple, whereas newer furniture is more often made out of plywood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and other less durable materials. If your wood furniture is sticky after already cleaning it, it’s likely from using too many polishes or waxes. You’ll need to remove some of the excess wax with a cloth and warm water mixed with dish soap. You can then reapply the wax or polish afterwards, but try to use a much smaller amount and wipe away any excess.
