Ewing Lovett Transfer Co

Although I have nothing to complain about regarding the moving, I believe that the owner of Ewing Lovett Transfer engaged in deceptive pricing and for this reason I am giving the company an overall grade of D. The move itself took place on December 4, 2016. The purpose was to move a bed, sofa, 2 bookcases, a coffee table, a standing mirror and a small kitchen table and 4 rolling chairs from on house in Urbana to my residence in Champaign. It was not particularly complicated since all of these items were moved out one floor into another house with one floor. I called two days ahead to describe the items, get a price and to schedule the move. The price I was given was $230, based on what the mover said was two hours of work. We set the time for the move at 8:30 a.m. A representative called me again the next day to reconfirm the time. We arrived at the house in Urbana exactly at 8:30 and saw that the truck was there. The move went smoothly and the total time was 1 hour and 45 minutes. When I was making out my check, the person who was making a copy of the bill for me, who had identified himself as the owner, told me to wait until he had finished making the bill, which turned out to be for $258. 75. When I objected that this was more than he had stated would be charged for work that in fact took less time that he had estimated, he told me that he was charging for an extra 15 minutes that they had waited for us at the Urbana house (presumably from 8:15 to 8:30) and for travel time to and from the sites. I pointed out that we had set a firm time for beginning the move at 8:30 and nothing had been mentioned for extra costs if he decided to arrive early or his travel time before and after the move was finished, he brushed this aside. I feel very strongly that this is deceptive pricing and that it may even be actionable. This extra costs need to expressed up front when the customer asks for a quote, and the only extra costs that should be allowable are if the customer simply underestimates the time so grossly that the mover can not reasonably carry out the work within the estimated time, which in the case was less than two hours which the owner of Ewing Levitt said he would charge for.

They were great.

The move went very smoothly and was done in a timely manner.  They placed the furniture in the correct room and it went very well.  The price was a little higher, since we used two truck loads but was still a bargain.  I would use this Company again if I ever move again.  And I highly recommend them.

They are very well priced in my estimation.  They are efficient.  They are very careful with your possessions.  They are personable and they take pride in what they do.  I will use them again.

Showed up on time, cheerfully moved all of our belongings, helped with special needs like capping a dryer gas line, changing refrig. doors, relocating items after they were placed. This was a long day filled with hard work, and it was such a relief to have Corky and his crew helping us. We did not worry about the care that was being taken, timing, professionalism, or any other similar issues. I was so impressed with the way this company handled the move! Highly recommended.
