"Didn't think we'd go with a national company but Shawn the salesman talked a sweet deal and provided higher quality carpet for same price as local company. Shawn was very friendly, courteous and out to get us a great deal which he did! Communication wasn't the best when calling the St. Louis corporate office, that's why the "4". We couldn't get ahold of Shawn and had to leave a 24 hr inquiry for a manager to call. Representative was nice and trying to help but we had a last minute question before installation and we needed action now. Manager didn't call. We were able to reach Shawn the next day and he took care of our concerns immediately. The 2 man carpet installation team were prompt and friendly and professional. Job took less than 7 hours instead of day and a half as scheduled. Rafael did an amazing job carpeting the stairs. 3 bedrooms and big closets look great too. They also cleaned up very well. They moved several pieces of furniture and 2 beds and nothing damaged. This is the first time we've had carpet installed and we were very pleased, especially since we didn't think we'd go with a national company. We were first concerned that installers were sub-contractors but we couldn't ask for anything more. Great experience!!!"

"Marc did a fantastic job for us! We had two properties, a rental house in University City and a condo in Clayton and both had ugly and old tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. Marc was helpful and professional in seeing the projects right away, giving us written bids and helping us select the colors. He and his workers did a great job protecting the cabinets and walls and worked quickly and efficiently. Plus they were able to squeeze us into their schedule. The baths and kitchen look brand new! We also had the tile floors in the three bathrooms sprayed and our designer thought we had laid new tile!"

"As part of a makeover to refresh my 1930s bathroom, I engaged Miracle Method to refinish the tub which had an ugly rust stain under the faucet from a persistent drip. I decided to have them refinish the wall tile as well. The entire experience was very positive from estimate to scheduling through work and follow up. I have nothing but praise for the people who completed the work and the office staff who coordinated the scheduling. Everyone was friendly, professional and responsive. The cost may be a bit higher than other vendors, but you get what you pay for and the result is beautiful -- exactly as I anticipated. I am very pleased with their work and would not hesitate to recommend them.

"I Asked Angie's List for help in finding a provider that could replace 4 damaged kitchen tiles.  They provided me 3 names and after reviewing reports I decided to try Tub Company.  I sent email with pics of the tile and in a day or two received a call from Jeff, the owner.  I explained I had replacement tiles and original grout. He asked a few questions but felt the pics provided enough info to give a bid over the phone.  I agreed and we set up an appointment.  Eli showed up.  He was very professional and courteous.  He did state the repair would kick up a lot of dust as grout would have to be cut with grinder.  Jeff had already alerted me to that over the phone.  Importantly I did express my concern about limiting the dust as best as possible.  Eli really did do a good job of sealing off the area as best as he could with plastic.  He also covered the kitchen cabinets, opened window and placed a fan in it to draw as much as possible outside.  He also used a grinder that had some sort of vacuum to draw as much of the dust as he could. Eli replaced three of the tiles and was able to patch a small chip in one tile so it did not need replacing, thereby saving me one of the few replacement tiles I had left in case I need a future repair.  Can't tell where chip was.  Good match. He set the tile and then let it sit overnight to get a good seal.  He then came back next morning and grouted.
I can't believe how much better the flooring looks in the kitchen.  I guess we just tolerated the cracked tiles and got used to it. My wife and I are very pleased with the job Tub Company did.

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

There are several tools that you will use together to install tiles. Four of the most basic tools needed in tile installation include a notched trowel for applying tile adhesive, a tile cutter or saw for cutting tiles to size, tile spacers for creating the appropriate amount of space between tiles, and a grout float for applying grout.

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.
