"The sales rep Tim was very professional and patient with me. Throughout the sales process he listened to all my concerns and explained the process from beginning to end. I know that I would have problems with wood replacement and tim made sure to make note of that. During the install there was a miscommunication with the crew and that lead to inadequate wood repair in the beginning. At this point I called the project manager Walter and explained the situation to him. Shortly after Walter came to my house with the field manager Mike and they both did a more thorough inspection of the wood repair and we came to the solution that best fit my home. After the wood repair incident everything went very smoothly. The crew worked very hard and did beautiful work after they took care of the newly installed wood. Overall the experience good. There was a problem but the way the company responded was great and I was very happy with the final outcome of the project."

"Our kids broke in the inside window pane from a double hung bedroom window. I had removed the window myself. Apex called me after submitting a request through Angie's list and the rep mentioned it may be more economical if I lived close to drop it off. I did that and they had the window repaired in 2 days, the window looked great and at a better price the the competition. I will definitely use Apex again for repairs."

"They were supposed to give me an estimate for an addition to replace one family room ad one sunroom that I have. They did the windows, but they never gave me an estimate to determine if I wanted it done. They did deliver the wrong window, but they were very good about ordering another window. They did work for me last year. I don't think the price was too much. They came late. I've used them twice now. I used them even though their responsiveness was not that great."

"The work was completed in a timely and professional manner. The contractor communicated with me on his status and arrived on time. He cleaned up the area after he was finished and hauled away the debris. He asked me if anything was left undone and repaired the areas that were missed. He had a good attitude and was pleasant to talk to. The cost was reasonable. I would use Gain Construction again."

"We had a very good experience with Progressive Restoration. Marc did a complete walk around of our home with me to identify and get feedback from me for the scope of work. He also provided us with an overview of the work he would perform. A few days later Marc provided a detailed quote listing all the work to be performed as well as the materials to be used and a starting date. He also included the company's insurance certificate and a list of references. After we agreed to work together Marc confirmed the starting date and the timeline for the key steps of the job through to completion. Marc demonstrated a very professional approach throughout this initial stage.

Marc was able to start the job ahead of schedule. The team arrived on time everyday and carried out the job just as Marc described. They performed their work in a professional and caring manner with attention to detail and cleanliness. In addition the job was finished as scheduled and on time. Overall Marc did very good work on all areas of the job.Upon completion Marc walked me around the house to review the work. We had a great experience with Progressive Restoration and we will use them again without hesitation."

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.
