"I called A-1 Superior Plumbing & Sewar in the early afternoon on a Friday and explained that my garbage disposal was making a loud noise as if metal was rubbing on metal; my disposal was 15 yrs old. Joe from A-1 was at my home at 10:30 the next morning and determined the disposal had a lot of rust in it which caused the problem. He installed a new disposal and cleaned up the area. He was very pleasant and professional. I was very impressed by his fast response to my call. I will definitely call him again for any future plumbing jobs I may need. "
"Once they located the main drain line, they did a really job of clearing it out. However, they left the debris from the drain line in the front yard and left deep tracks in the front lawn from their equipment."
"If you are ever in need of a fantastic sewer/drain/plumbing company, you should absolutely contact Flo-Maxx!! As a first time homeowner, I unexpectedly walked into a laundry list of issues. After having one company tell me I was a low priority, Flo-Maxx came to my rescue and from the first phone call they were a joy to work with. Every job they worked on they were prompt, communicative, courteous and honest. They put up with my 10,000 questions and always treated me with respect (rather than just as an unknowledgeable girl). They are not the cheapest option out there, but they are far more reasonable than the bigger/impersonal companies. Add to it that they truly take pride in their work, with Flo-Maxx you happily get more than what you pay for. Due to the number of issues this old house had I probably know Joe and his team better than I know my neighbors. Boss Man Joe, Martin, Kevin, Hassan, Mario, Elias, Felix, David and Luis were all a delight to work with. It didn't matter if it was sunny/60, thunderstorms, or snowing; weekday or weekend, they always showed up with a great attitude and ready to help. Special props to Martha too for being the gate keeper of it all and answering my many phone calls. Long story short, I will hands-down always recommend Flo-Maxx Sewer and Drain. Stop wasting time reading other reviews... just call them now. List of work done (so far) - Hydrojet to clear sewer back-up (twice), fixed leaking drain in laundry sink, replaced water heater & expansion tank, replaced ancient flood control system with lift station"
"Installed a sump pump in our crawling space. They were really great to work with, responded very quickly, were able to assess the project accurately and give us a very competitive quote. Was very efficient and completed the project in half a day. They were friendly and happy to answer all of our questions as well as give us a range of options. Would definitely hire again."
"Friendly professional service. We needed to replace the shut off valve in our bathroom. Asked if he would have time to fix the sink drain and that was done as well."
"The plumbing on the lower level of my place went haywire a couple of weeks ago and there was a smelly overflow of water coming out of the drain where my furnace and hot water heater drained condensation. I called Charlie in a bit of a panic and left a message. I waited a couple of hours and called back, and he picked up to let me know he was working on another job and would call me back. Charlie called back around 9:30pm and told me that the issue is most likely related to my sump pump. I told Charlie I had to leave for work at a certain time the next day so he said he could come over in the morning. In the meanwhile, he told me not to run any water on the lower level. When Charlie came over, he checked the electrical connection first, which was fine, and eventually found out that the sump pump had died. So right away, he ran out to grab a new one and came back quickly to begin replacing the pump. When he tested the new sump pump, it still didn't work, and he ended up finding a clog in the pipes. He fixed that issue right away. Charlie finished right by the time I had to leave for work. Throughout the process, he took the time to explain what he was doing and gave me some tips along the way, which was much appreciated by this first time home buyer. It was nice to experience someone so thorough and nice... Plus, Charlie gave me a good price on the services. It's nice to know he's close by, too. I'd give him a call again if I ran into any other plumbing issues. "
Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts
Most garbage disposals have a reset button that can be triggered with a tool as simple and accessible as your index finger. That said, if you need to perform a more in-depth troubleshooting step, like manually moving the arms inside the unit or rotating the impeller plate, a hex wrench is the most common tool you’ll need. Most garbage disposals come with a hex wrench.
On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.
Continuous feed garbage disposals are the favorite model for many homeowners for a reason. As opposed to batch feed models, add food scraps to the drain whenever the disposal is running. This variety is also typically less expensive, more convenient, and easier to clean.
Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.
When a dishwasher discharges its wastewater, it uses a pump to quickly move a lot of water. If anything in the drain line or the garbage disposal impedes the high volume of water, it will back up into the sink through the drain or the garbage disposal. Following regular dishwasher maintenance tips like clearing clogs, keeping them cleared, and occasionally running the disposal will eliminate the problem.
