The water abatement wall was not in Dan's wheelhouse and ended up not working at all, so we weren't able to get the lower cracks fixed. Dan poured us a very nice cap to the seawall and widened it so that it could be walked on. He also created a notch for our pier to be mounted in. He was able to fix a couple of heavily damaged spots above the water line and one significant crack in the seawall. The problem is with the cracks that he wasn't able to fix. Those cracks propagated up into the new cap almost immediately which is unfortunate. Overall, Dan has extremely good pricing and his flatwork looks excellent. I'm disappointed that the repairs didn't take place when the water level was low enough because it diminishes what would be an otherwise beautiful job. The quality mark is really a B+ or an A-, but Angie's List doesn't allow those. We have patio and driveway work that we will definitely have Dan do when the time comes, so this overall B review isn't really as negative as it might seem. I think dealing with the water was probably too much for Dan, but everything else is fine. I would recommend Molnar Construction for your concrete work. At that time I gave Mr. Johnson a deposit of $6,000.00. Work was to commence on November 11, 2013, time was of the essence in this contract. The possibility of inclement weather delays was discussed and it was agreed that under no circumstances was work to begin later than March 1, 2014 or completed later than March 15, 2014. During the discussion on November 8, 2013, Mr. Johnson showed me colors and stamp patterns available. Mr. Johnson stated he had some colors on hand from previous jobs. One of the reasons I chose the colors I did was because Mr. Johnson could start sooner and charge less if I chose some of these colors. On May 5, 2014, Mr. Johnson finally began work. Mr. Johnson arrived at 7:30 am with a crew of two men, and hand equipment only. Mr. Johnson informed the homeowners, he required an additional $1,000.00 to rent a jackhammer and dump truck. I gave him a check and he left. His two workers removed the front and back walkways, and began to remove the garage apron. Mr. Johnson returned at 1:30 that afternoon, it was determined that a jackhammer was needed to remove the rear stoop and the remaining garage apron. Mr. Johnson stated he would rent one and be on the job site at 7:00 a.m. the next morning. He and his crew worked until 2:30 and left. On May 6, 2014, Mr. Johnson called at approximately 7:15 a.m. and stated he was in Joliet, Ill but could not rent a jackhammer because he did not have a major credit card. He asked Mr. Berry to rent a jackhammer from Menards and said he would reimburse him for the rental fees when he arrived later that day. When Mr. Johnson and his two man crew arrived they still had only hand tools. After some very brief instruction on the use of the jackhammer, Mr. Johnson left almost immediately for an appointment. His crew attempted to contact him several times during the day because they were having problems removing the apron and back stoop. Per his crew Mr. Johnson never responded. Mr. Johnson arrived back at the job at 1:30 p.m. After removing apron and backdoor stoop, Mr. Johnson and his crew left at 4:15 p.m. Mr. Johnson informed the homeowner, he might not be on the job site at 7:00 on May 7, 2014, but he had given his crew instructions for the day?s work. May 7, 2014, nobody from Red?s Concrete showed up to work. That evening I received a text message stating he would be at the job site the next day May, 8th. May 8, 2014 once again Red?s Concrete did not show up at the job site. I received a text stating they would be at there in the morning, May 9, 2014. May 9, 2014 once again Red? Concrete did not show up at the job site. Received yet another text stating they would be there at 7:00 a.m. on the dot Saturday, May 10, 2014. Mr. Johnson arrived at 9:30 that morning. He did not have a crew with him nor did he have a dump trunk. At that time Mr. Berry informed Mr. Johnson he could not tolerate any more excuses or delays. He told Mr. Johnson that because he had long since breached the contract he wanted the money he was owed and told him he would find someone else to do the job. Jeff Berry asked Mr. Johnson to bring a check to his home by 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Mr. Berry sent Mr. Johnson a text message on Tuesday morning as a reminder. At 7:50 a.m. Mr. Johnson phoned Mr. Berry to tell him he did not have the money, but would like to meet to discuss payment arrangements.
Joe was wonderful! He came the next day to assess the problem. He ordered the parts needed and updated us once they arrived. The job was finished before the 1st company was even going showing up.
I hired Altered Surfaces to stain and seal my concrete basement floor. He came out in May and said he'd do the floor for $2500. A few weeks after the floor was done, it started cracking, peeling and bubbling. I contacted Altered Surfaces regarding the problem. He said it sounded like MVT...

Project overall went very well. They had to get re-registered with my village for permit reasons, this took them virtually no time at all to complete with the village. Cost of the project was within my budget where as others were out of my budget. The quality of work and how the shed pad came...
The first winter the concrete from Anderson Concrete fell apart. Thanks to Muffler Concrete, they sealed it after they finished it and it looks great.

We contracted with Dan at the end of September 2013 to perform repairs to our seawall. Our lake fluctuates in height significantly during the year and we wanted the repairs done in the fall because the lake was low. In fact, in October of that year, the seawall was exposed all the way down...

If you want to ensure your concrete sealer is applied correctly and lasts for as long as possible, hiring a professional is a good idea. A pro can recommend the ideal sealer and ensure it’s applied correctly.
Concrete resurfacing is the process of applying a new, thin layer of concrete over an existing concrete slab to give it a fresh appearance. The new layer is often between 1/4-inch and 1-inch thick, so it involves much less material than you’d need to pour a new slab, which is often 4 inches thick. Resurfacing also gives you the opportunity to add color or texture to your slab without totally replacing it.
Yes, concrete changes color while curing, moving from a dark shade when wet to a lighter shade once dry and fully cured. Wait at least 10 days after pouring the concrete to gauge the color of the final concrete. If the concrete remains dark or discolored after that period, reach out to your concrete contractor with questions.
Adding a stamped concrete patio is an affordable way to bring some elegance into your backyard entertaining area, which could add to your home’s value. Provided your stamped concrete patio is installed by a local stamped concrete professional, the patio should last for 40 years or more, and prospective buyers will likely recognize value in that longevity. Keep in mind that permanent patios like concrete slabs will likely raise property taxes, but the added value is usually well worth the investment.
