"They were professional, efficient, and cost effective. The communication every step of the process was being expectations. I wish they traveled to other states because the attention to detail is rarely seen nowadays."

"Like that they could find the problem with my roof leak that three others did not. while fixing the leak, they corrected other problems as well for siding and vents. They were like others who have worked on my siding, left behind a handful of nails and cigarette butts on my lawn to be throw away. I will use Griffitts in the future, since they know how to do things correctly!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Whether or not the terms of your roofing estimate are negotiable depends on the contractor. Some professional roofers will be willing to budge on labor fees to some extent, while others will simply walk away from the potential work rather than lower their fees. In most cases, it’s best not to negotiate the terms, as lower labor charges could lead to your contractor cutting corners. Material costs aren’t negotiable, but you could purchase them yourself to try to save on delivery fees and markups.

The best way to prevent wind damage to your roof, especially if you live in an area prone to hurricanes, tropical storms, or tornadoes, is to invest in a roofing product with high wind resistance. Look for the ASTM D3161 and ASTM D7158 ratings to see the specific wind speeds your roofing product can withstand. Impact-resistant shingles have the highest wind resistance ratings and will give you the best chance of avoiding wind damage.

Costs vary by repair scope, materials needed, and labor, with average repairs ranging from $300 to $1,000, contingent on roof size.

A gable roof with steep pitches covered in asphalt shingles or wood shakes is the most popular roof for Cape Cod homes. Asphalt shingles started gaining popularity in the early 1900s, so wood shake roofs, which were popular in the 1700s when Cape Cod homes were first built, are the traditional option. You can further modernize your Cape Cod home by raising the roof in the front, back, or both to add living space and change up the traditional single-gable roof with doghouse dormers.

To cap off a chimney flue, start by measuring its width, length, and diameter, if it’s circular. Purchase a cap that fits the flue, and decide whether you want a temporary or permanent model. Then, slide or insert the cap onto the flue and secure it with a screwdriver. Be sure to avoid over-tightening the screws to prevent chimney damage.
