"We hired Mark for multiple projects including fixing a railing, installing new shelves in a closet, and multiple other projects. He was very professional and punctual. His attention to detail was excellent. I also appreciated his recommendations on what would work best with the spaces we working on. I highly recommend hiring Mark from Arkwright Handyman."

"Jason and BJ painted our kitchen and laundry room cabinets. They did a great job and we could not be happier! We spent some time researching different finishes, resurfacing and even installing new cabinets. So glad we went with 2nd Street Painting - our cabinets look brand new! The work was done efficiently, cleanly and with great care. All of our questions were promptly answered. The guys were very friendly, polite and easy to work with. Great communication too! We will have them out for our next painting project. Highly recommend!"

"In Fall 2023 we decided to finish our roughed in basement. Our basement is approximately 1100 sq ft with 950 sq ft of livable space. Jim Johnson with Next Level did a great job walking us though the basement and discussing options, pricing, time line, etc. We decided to go with a full bath, wet bar, bedroom w closet and office/living space. Jim gave us a full estimate including time line, cost, payment breakdown by week, etc. He was very communicative throughout the process and always kept us in the loop if anything was running behind, to ask about ideas he had for colors, materials, hardware, etc. We are very pleased with the quality of the work and how beautiful it came out. When we did the final walk though my wife was not home so I sent her a picture and she said "our bathroom looks like a magazine!" I would recommend Jim and Next Level to anyone looking for a trustworthy company that will give you exactly what you are looking for and make you confident in a somewhat overwhelming process."

"They were very professional. They came in matched my color to the cabinets perfectly. If you want a big project that involves your kitchen cabinets refacing I highly recommend The Home Depot. I never went to the store everything was done in my house. Great Job."

"Sentri Homes provided the most professional flooring service I’ve ever had. The LVP installation turned out absolutely beautiful, and I was amazed at how quickly everything was completed without sacrificing quality. The crew was fast, accurate, and extremely detail-oriented from start to finish. Everything was installed cleanly, precisely, and with real craftsmanship. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and far beyond what I expected. I would absolutely recommend Sentri Homes to anyone needing flooring installed."

"An initial call was not returned and I had requested the measuring kit which really wasn't needed. Both the table and buffet are rectangular and not in need of a detailed measurement. I happened to get a follow up call and arranged an order. I wouldn't be too concerned about the prices shown online, they are willing to work on the price. Actually it was adding the second item that helped for me. I did pay an extra $30 for expideted handling as I had a party coming up. The pads were received in a few days. I also bought the storage bags and they are OK. Rather flimsy. The pads themselves are of very high quality. Sturdy and for the dining table have magnets to hold them together. The tops have a nice look and I don't mind leaving them on."

"We love our cabinets! They look fantastic while remaining affordable. The friendly staff at AWD helped us from start to finish. They are very knowledgeable and gave us advice and tips when needed. They were receptive and patient with our ever-changing needs. Once we finalized our purchase, we received our cabinets within two weeks! The cabinets are very sturdy and the color is beautiful. The hinges and hardware are high quality. We are extremely pleased with AWD and would recommend them to any friends or family looking for good cabinets at a fair price."

FAQs for closet service projects in Ogden, IL

Building a custom closet costs about $2,000, on average. Because many types, sizes, and designs are available, the cost to build custom closets ranges from $250 to $6,000 or more. A reach-in closet is on the lower end of the price range from about $250 to $1,500, compared to a walk-in closet at $750 to $3,500 or a wardrobe at the high end between $1,500 and $6,000 or more.

The main difference between a closet and a wardrobe is that a closet is a separate room for general storage with its own door, and a wardrobe can be either built-in or freestanding place to store clothing. A walk-in or reach-in closet connected to a bedroom often serves the same purpose as a wardrobe by primarily storing clothes and shoes. A built-in wardrobe often does not have doors and leaves clothes exposed to view, whereas a standalone wardrobe usually has doors.

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.

Different types of closets are defined mostly by size. A few different types of closets include:

  • A reach-in closet is a smaller closet that you can stand in front of and reach everything inside it. Aside from the size, the doors and the level of drywall finish are typically the largest price factors.

  • A walk-in closet can be anything from a small 5-by-5 feet closet that has a narrow walkway with shelves on both sides to a 100 square foot bedroom-sized closet with shelving along the walls and plenty of room to move around in.

  • A built-in wardrobe often does not have a door and leaves the clothes and other contents open to the room, whereas a closet usually has a door to separate it from the rest of the room.

Yes, building a custom closet can definitely add value to your home. Creating a more useful and pleasing space to your home, especially a custom closet for prospective home buyers to imagine as their own, is likely to increase the value. However, avoid overdoing it with a closet that takes up too much space that’s otherwise more useful as living space, or paying extra for overly lavish materials and finishes that aren’t likely to add more value than they cost.
