Matt and his crew are awesome. Matt has helped me on 4 separate major renovations because his commitment to ensuring the project is second to none. His crew is there from 7am to 5pm everyday. Matt gives you his input and listens to ensure a positive experience. I would absolutely hire Matt and crew again. They just remodeled our basement.

We recently finished a kitchen renovation with M&L Remodeling. We are very pleased with the results. Matt was easy to work with throughout the whole process. I talked to 2 other contractors and 4 remodeling companies before hiring Matt. We definitely hired the right person! Matt and his worker, John did exactly what we wanted perfectly. They are highly skilled and very hard working. They worked from 7am to 5pm everyday and finished our project in 5 weeks. Our home is almost 100 yrs old. Matt was careful during the demolition. Matt had some good ideas too. He found 6 feet of unused space in the wall and built a spice cabinet next to the stove. Our kitchen is now more functional and beautiful! I highly recommend M&L Remodeling.

I highly recommend using M&L Remodeling! I originally had a different contractor for this project but was uncomfortable about his attention to detail and ended up switching to have Matt do it instead. Even though I paid a bit more and had to wait a few weeks for him to be available it was well worth it. He was even able to catch some issues in our first walk through the the other contractor had over looked. I felt like I could trust what I was getting as far as price, workmanship and time frame from the very beginning. He was more than willing to meet up in person at my convenience multiple times to discuss details and go over different ideas. As a first time home buyer it was extremely valuable to have someone I trusted to talk things through with, suggest different ways of doing things and let me know what he thought would look best. From the day they started work his guys were there from 7am-5pm every day Mon-Fri. Things moved quickly and we would either meet in person or talk on the phone multiple times a week to keep things moving along. He was very good at communicating when he needed me to order things and would set up appointments with the cabinet and counter people around my schedule. Both the cabinet and counter companies he used had quick turn around times and really took the time to show me different options and make sure I got what I wanted. The upstairs went from looking old and beaten up with mismatched floors to clean, modern and cohesive throughout. He turned the separate kitchen/ dining room area into a big bright open space with a peninsula shaped breakfast bar. The transformation in the basement was impressive. His guys turned a completely unlivable tore up basement with no dry wall or flooring into a beautiful open studio apartment with a full bathroom, kitchenette, new windows and a walk in closet. The project came in ahead of schedule, he originally quoted me for 10 weeks and the project was done in 7. I only came out slightly over budget but every time an issue or add on came up he would give me an addition quote so that as the project came to an end there were no surprises with the bill. Everything turned out better than I even imagined. I will definitely use Matt in the future and be recommending him to friends.

Matt and his guys were absolutely amazing, especially Johnny. Matt came out for an estimate the day I called him and got me a proposal the next day. They started work a little less than 2 weeks later and he estimated 4 to 5 weeks. It took about 4.5 weeks! Johnny was always here before 7am and didn’t leave until 5pm, every single day! The end result was exactly what I pictured. Very little additional costs outside of the estimate other than needing to insulate the attic, but that was a fair price, too. I will definitely be hiring Matt again in the future!!

This is an update to my review of Dec. 2018. I can no longer recommend this contractor due to his unwillingness to check out a problem we incurred in our basement 7 months after our remodel was completed. In July 2019 my husband and I noticed that the epoxy floor paint had bubbled in a couple of spots and called Matt to come and take a look. I did not accuse him or his workers of causing the problem or that he was responsible for fixing it. I just wanted his advice on how to handle the issue ourselves and told him this. He said he was in the midst of flipping a house and could not visit for at least 3 months. I indicated my displeasure at this answer but he was adamant that he couldn’t get away and that this would provide time to see if the problem was a one off or if it would become more extensive. My husband and I waited for three months, during which time we discovered 4 additional bubbles for a total of 6. My husband and I have both called, texted and emailed Matt, again asking only for his advice, but have never received a response. Therefore, despite having originally felt M&L Remodeling was an excellent company, I can no longer recommend them. To my husband and I, it is equally important that a company stand by their guarantees and work with a client to resolve issues that may arise within the first year of a job.

Matt and his team were fantastic. They were on time, every time, the work was great and they hadndled all of our midstream changes with aplomb. They were doing such a good job on the basement that we had them paint our upstairs hallways and add a new backsplash to our kitchen. Even with those additions they finished in the orignal time quoted for the job and left everything in great shape.

We had a terrific experience with M&L Remodeling. From start to finish they were punctual, responsive, and efficient. Matt’s crew, led by John, were such hard workers, clocking in at 7 each morning and leaving at 5, plus half day on Saturday. The original time estimate was 6-8 weeks and the project was completed in 6. Matt was always available via text or phone for questions. We had already designed the floor plan of the new space so that was helpful in determining what the project would entail and we really got everything we had envisioned. I would highly recommend this company for any remodeling work. The work done included demolition of a small powder room, removal of a cast iron laundry tub, old galvanized steel piping, old electrical conduit and one short wall. Following that, a few small cracks in the walls were sealed and the entire foundation was painted with dry-lock waterproofing paint. Then framing of walls and ceiling for drywall, followed by plumbing and ejector pit installation, bath fixtures, shower, tile and flooring, electrical work, drywall of ceilings and walls, doors and trim installed, new glass block windows, new vinyl on stairs, painting of walls, doors and trim, baseboard heating, can lights and lighting fixtures, epoxy floor with vinyl chips throughout. We also had exhaust fans added in the bath, workshop and craft area which needed to vent through the exterior brick wall.

We hired Matt to do some remodeling of our home. Basement: Matt and his team took the basement almost completely down to the studs, we opted to keep the kitchen, laundry and a pantry intact. The basement had been finished in the past, however due to the shape of the house (it's rounded in the front), the rooms were a very odd shape and there was a lot of wasted space. Matt worked with us to develop a floor plan that would best utilize the space and take advantage of the unique shape. Main kitchen: The kitchen was completely taken down to the studs, opening up a window that was covered up at some point. He replaced all the windows, adding a bay window in the back of the kitchen. To save some money we purchased a used kitchen from Murco Recycling that included kitchen cabinets, sinks, faucets, double oven and other items. Prior to making this purchase, I asked Matt if he would speak with the company to make sure it would work for our kitchen remodel, he readily agreed. He and his team did a beautiful job in utilizing the available pieces from this purchase to build a custom kitchen in our home. He replaced the hardware with the new hardware we purchased, re-stained all the cabinets, built an island from available pieces, and because we wanted the cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling, he added some woodwork to accomplish this. He also hung some extra glass front cabinets that were not used in the kitchen remodel in the dining room. The kitchen turned out absolutely beautiful. Everyone who has seen it has commented on how nice it looks. Main bathroom: The bathroom was also taken down to the studs. The original window was replaced with a large block window with a vent. The wall was expanded into a small closet that wasn't being used due to a portion of it being taken up with duct work, making room for a larger tub. A partial wall that came down from the ceiling over the tub was removed, opening up the bathroom and eliminating an area that was prone to mold and nearly impossible to access for cleaning. A double sink was added and tiling was added both on the face of the tub and walls around to give it a built in look. Other work: Two bedrooms were painted, ceilings replaced and original windows replaced. Trim was stained in the dining and living room, hardwood floors sanded and stained and a couple of outlets were added in the living room. We needed doors throughout the house and again to save some money, found some used solid oak doors, also through Murco Recycling. These still needed to be removed from the original home. Matt went and removed them from the home in the suburbs for us. Throughout the whole project Matt was very responsive and came up with some good ideas. He was also open to ideas we had, such as putting tile on the face of the tub. He figured out how to make it work. His team was at the house everyday until the project was complete. He projected it would take 3 - 4 months, and was completed in under 3 months. I would absolutely hire Matt again for future projects.

Wonderful, from the beginning Matt seemed to understand what I was looking for, He was able to make suggestions that improved upon my ideas. The workers were wonderful, they were punctual and cleaned as they worked. I had all paneling removed and had the walls and ceiling dry walled. They created a laundry room for me and updated all electrical. They primed and painted all new walls and ceiling. They also installed new flooring through the basement.

The bidding process was convenient. Matt at M&L Remodeling is easy to get a hold of and responsive. We received three bids from general contractors. Two of the three bids were comparable (including M&L) with a third bid that was significantly higher. In addition to pricing, we selected M&L Remodeling because they were very receptive to our needs. We wanted to complete the project in two phases (Winter 2016 and Summer 2017) for financial purposes. We also have worked in the past with a trusted HVAC company that we wanted to use to install in-floor heating. Neither request was a problem with M&L (the other contractor was not receptive). The project was fully permitted. The planning and permitting process went smoothly. The architect incorporated a few suggestions we had. All of the workers and subcontractors were professional and kept areas outside of the construction zone clean. We had very little interaction with sub-contractors. Everyone was paid and scheduled through M&L Remodeling, our general contractor. We are very happy with the finished product. The price was exactly what was quoted originally and the finishes/quality was exactly what we were hoping for. We’ve have multiple big rain storms and no sign of flooding/leaking. Most of all, the process never felt like a hassle. There were no big curveballs with respect to pricing and M&L Remodeling were very responsive.

Matt is very busy, but was honest about when he could start the work after providing an estimate - he started the job exactly when he said he would. We approved the estimate in March, started the work in July. Completed the bulk of the project in September, with a few minor punch list items completed in November. We did not have plans drawn up, but instead had a general idea of what we wanted. This resulted in us changing our mind a few times after work had already been done. Matt didn't blink and eye and redid things without a problem. What started out as a fairly simple project turned into a very custom, high-end basement and Matt brought up good ideas to make things look more complete, without adding costs. That being said, I would recommend having a strong idea of what you want before starting a project as it is not efficient to create the plan as you go! We ran into water seepage issues early on in the project and Matt helped us find reasonable solutions to solve the issue. His crew is great and showed up on time every single day and worked a full day (arrived at 7am and left around 5pm), they even worked a half day on Saturday for most of the project. We were very demanding and particular about what we liked and didn't like and paid a lot of attention to the little details and Matt's crew was good about meeting our requests. All in all the work is beautiful - way beyond my expectations of what a basement could look like. I would definitely recommend M&L Remodeling without hesitation.

It went great. Started on time and finished before original plan. During the cutting of the concrete floor it was discovered that the old electrical conduit was under the concrete, which meant it was all rusted and reduced to almost bare wires. All that had to be removed and placed above ground where it should be. Even with this unplanned work, the project was completed before schedule. Matt and his crew always came on time. They did the demolition, then the new framing, electrical, and plumbing. A separate crew came to do the drywall. Then Matt's crew came back to do all the finishing. Matt himself was there every morning checking on the work and setting up the day's schedule for the crew. Price listed below is what Matt charged. It does not include flooring materials, bathroom furnishings, shower tiles and glass. All that was purchased separately according to what we wanted.

Excellent. From the first call with Matt to when they finished up the basement, it went better than I would have expected. I read all the reviews at Angie's List before hiring M&L and was not disappointed. This basement project included a lot of components and I have very specific tastes. Matt worked with me on everything to make sure that I was happy with the result. Because the basement was unfinished, we had to do a lot of planning work to layout the space and deal with low ceiling height and lots of pipes. The crew was professional and friendly, they came on time and cleaned up at the end of each day. No glitches. I had to wait for Matt to finish other projects before he started mine, but I was glad that he didn't take on too many projects at once because he was always available and the crew showed up every weekday (and even some Saturdays). In total, it took 9 weeks, which was one week longer than expected, but that was my fault as I ordered the wrong floor tile, which set us back. The cost was very fair because of the amount of work that needed to be done - plumbing, electrical, stairs, framing, drywall, flooring, ceiling, closet, lighting, heating, bathroom.... I did provide most of the finish materials, so the total cost was higher than what I paid M&L, but that gave me flexibility to determine the finish level. I would highly recommend Matt and his crew for quality, friendly, professional work. Matt is very knowledgable and was open-minded to my ideas and input.

We found Matt on Angie's List and saw he had many good reviews for basement remodels. We met with Matt and explained our vision for the basement. He listened to exactly what we wanted and proposed ideas to help us get everything we wanted within our budget. Most other contractors heard our budget of $50,000 and literally walked out on us. Matt and his crew were some of the most pleasant contractors my wife and I have ever worked with. They were very courteous, prompt about showing up for work and cleaned up at the end of the day. Every time something unexpected came up, Matt already had the problem solved before he even called us to let us know (don't know any other contracts that would do this). Matt and his crew were here at 645am and worked until 5pm every day. They finished a big job in 9 weeks, which exceeded our expectations! Quality of work was excellent! (see photos) My wife and I now have an amazing basement for our growing family to enjoy!! We intend to call Matt back for additional projects!!

Matt and his team are amazing. They turned a 90 year old basement into an extremely useable and light filled space. The whole process of basement remodeling is a very stressful process. Picking the right contractor and company based on reviews and reputation is the most important ones. I'm glad I choose M&L Remodeling and Painting. Matt and his crew made the process as painless as possible. They listen to you, go over with your plans, they offer suggestions if your out of ideas, they work with your budget, they make sure everything they do will make you love your basement. Very professional when it comes to what they do, they come in at 7am and leaves at 5pm. I really love it that they clean up their mess after the day is done. Overall, they did a very good job that's why I am really satisfied. You can never go wrong with M&L Remodeling and Painting.

We purchased our home in July with a renovation loan attached to the mortgage. After contacting multiple contractors, and being stood up by many, we landed upon Matt and I was instantly happy with his responsiveness to the project. I knew that our renovation would require a lot of legwork due to the money being financed through our lender, but Matt never seemed put off by the task. He went so far above and beyond to fulfill all of the banks requirements for being our General Contractor for the project, was exceptionally patient with the loads of paperwork and contracts, and was incredibly trusting and patient on receiving funds for work completed. Upon deciding to buy a home that needed renovated, my husband and I honestly had no idea what we were getting into. Matt was extremely helpful in guiding us through the process of de-converting our basement from a poorly designed circa 1970's apartment, to a fully functional second floor of open living space for a single family home. From the start of the project to the end Matt was always readily available. We would often text multiple times a day on the progress of the many different phases of our project. I really appreciated his sense of humor and jovial approach to the job. When issues arose (such as the lack of a concrete floor.. hello dirt?!?!) Matt was quick to sub-contract the work for us at a fair price. In addition, as other "old house" issues came up for us, Matt was quick to help out, even though it was not his responsibility to do so. For example, Matt came multiple times on the weekend to address our old boiler that kept giving out, and even brought his own HVAC guy in to take care of the issue. Considering that the boiler was never part of our contract, I really appreciated his willingness to help us out! I honestly am not sure what we would have done without his help our first few months here. Our project took roughly 2.5 months. Matt's team was here every day on time. They worked from 7am-6pm often 6 days a week to get our renovation done as quickly as possible. They were polite, friendly, and we never minded them being in our home. In fact, now the the project is over, I am sad to see some of them go! Any issues that I brought up with his team were always taken seriously and taken care of promptly. Now that the renovation has concluded, I can honestly say that our new basement (and open format staircase) is absolutely beautiful. Neighbors and friends who saw the space before, literally cannot believe that this is the same house. Matt and his team completely transformed our outdated basement, into something that is both beautiful and functional. We plan to complete future renovations on our home, and would not even think of calling anyone but Matt. He was such a pleasure to work with, incredibly responsive, and delivered us an amazing new space. We would highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a great GC.

This was our first remodeling project, and we were very nervous. We met with 13 different contractors/companies, and Matt was our favorite from the very beginning. He was by far the most responsive, and we liked his friendly, energetic personality. We did have to wait several months to get on his schedule, but it wasn't a big deal for us because we were getting financing through our bank and had to wait for that anyway. We actually looked at it as a good sign that he was busy! The remodeling started in May and was projected to take about 8 weeks. Demolition was messy, but that is to be expected and Matt and his crew did a great job of containing the dust as much as possible---to be honest, it wasn't as bad as I expected. We allowed them to use our garage to put the debris instead of getting a dumpster, and that worked great. After the demolition, a truck came and hauled everything away. During the demolition of the kitchen and family room ceilings, they discovered that the floor underneath the 2nd floor was badly damaged with broken joists, and had not been properly reinforced when the upstairs was remodeled before we owned the house. Matt was honest with us that it really wasn't a very safe situation, and we quickly worked out a plan to replace the floors, reinforcing the joists and laying new plywood to make things more stable--this added an extra several days of work, but Matt was very fair in his pricing for the added expense. That was really the only major added expense, besides a few small things here and there. Everything from that point on went really smoothly. His crew of guys are wonderful----very polite, respectful, and extremely hardworking. We actually came to like having them around every day----they were great with our kids and our dog, which was nice. They were on time every single morning at 7am, worked until 5pm, and were even here most Saturdays. They work very fast, which we loved. Matt was great about letting us know what supplies to purchase and have ready for the next phase. His price covers the cost of labor and rough materials. We had to buy all the finishes, such as tile, flooring, fixtures, etc. Matt was very helpful in recommending places to check out, and we ended up using his recommendations for glass shower doors and granite. I can honestly say that I had heard horror stories about contractors, and I didn't experience any of that with Matt---he was a pleasure to work with---always smiling and energetic with a very positive attitude. He was very responsive---if I called, texted, or emailed, he got back to me right away, and was very patient with me when I had questions or concerns. He was very involved in the project and made sure that he was there at least once a day to check in, go over things with me, and monitor the progress. We are happy with the quality of work, and everything looks beautiful. There were a few minor touch ups after the project ended, and Matt took care of them no problem. The project finished on time, even though there were a few things that we added that added extra days. Matt was very, very fair in his pricing considering the amount of work that was done, and especially when it came to the additional things added to the project----I do not feel like he took advantage of us in any way, or try to "nickel and dime" us. I genuinely trusted him, and still do. It is obvious that Matt really cares about his customers, and wants them to be happy. I would not hesitate to recommend him----they really made our first remodeling project a pleasant experience. We absolutely love our new spaces, and we will for sure be using them again when we remodel our basement.

Matt is great to work with. He is very responsive and any concerns you may have, he addresses them very quickly. The majority of his crew are great workers however there were a few times where i had to ask matt to have his guy come and redo a few touch up areas because it appeared rush and not professional. This was not the norm though. The price was fair and in the middle of the three quotes i got for the job. These guys do good work and i would definitely use them again when the need arises.

We had multiple companies out to quote our basement remodeling project, and ultimately decided to go with Matt and M&L.  From the first visit, and throughout the project, Matt was very responsive and understanding to our ideas and requests.  For example, I explained to each of the contractors who quoted the project that I wanted to re-use some original interior doors from my 1926 bungalow in the basement.  One of the contractors immediately discounted my request and explained to me how it would be much easier to use new pre-hung doors.  Matt, on the other hand, said it would not be a problem to re-use the doors.  Matt was able to use three of the doors I had, but we needed one more.  Matt went out looking and eventually found an old door that matched the others.  I doubt many other contractors would go to that trouble, and we were very appreciative of his effort.
Matt explained that flooring, tile, and fixtures were not included in the quote, and we would need to provide those items.  Matt was very good about letting us know what was needed at each step along the way, including square footage needed for tile.
Matt estimated the project to take 6-8 weeks, and it took just about 8 weeks.  They had to come back a couple of times for some finishing touches after we had carpet and countertop installed.  The guys showed up everyday at 7am like clockwork, worked until 5pm, and worked most Saturdays.
Overall, we are very happy with how the basement turned out.  Matt was very easy to work with and was always accommodating to our needs and requests.  I would definitely hire M&L again for future projects, and would recommend them to others.
