"It took a couple of weeks to get the part, but I understood it was an old lock and the serviceman, George , apologized for the delay and he was very courteous. I would recommend George and Final Touch Locksmith Services, LLC to anyone."

"I purchased the "Service Call and 4 Locks Re-Keyed" special through Angie's List, and received a message from the business owner the same night stating that he would contact me on the next business day to schedule an appointment.  This was indicative of my entire encounter with William C. DeBlase.  This one man business operated better, more efficiently, and more courteously than any large corporation I've come across.  Even though the Angie's List Special was only for re-keying, he was able to fix the inoperable locks.  The entire service call was less than 30 minutes long, and he left 4 copies of the keys he cut.  Highly recommend to anyone looking for a friendly, fast, and affordable locksmith.

"The locksmith, Bobby, called to let us know he was running a tiny bit late, which we totally appreciated the heads-up. When he arrived he was so friendly and got right to work. We changed the scope of work to add additional locks & keys and he happily did the work, using his expertise to aid us in making the best choices for our needs. We will absolutely use The Professional Locksmith again and request Bobby too!"

"June 2020. A Windy City knight-in-shining-armor story. My mom is on home hospice and it's emotionally ravaging. I took a walk to clear my head and lost my keys-locking me out/mom and dog in. Building manager called a vendor locksmith who got me in by picking lock after nearly two hours of panic time. He left. Once inside, I used my spare to lock the deadbolt but then the bolt broke and I was now locked inside. I called four 24/hour locksmiths-tried to go local as I'm in Western suburbs. Two never responded. One locksmith barely spoke English, wanted more than $200 and was more than an hour away. Then I got Adam. He helped me dismantle the complicated, vintage Schlage deadbolt lock so I could get out - spent a half hour on the phone with me. Then Dan showed up (wearing a mask, thank you) to replace pins and repair the lock during a medical emergency with my mom. He quickly finished and gave me two replacement keys. I was borderline hysterical during all of this and they were extremely knowledgable, patient, responsive, fairly-priced and sensitive to the issues I was facing. They have my business forever."

"Despite having some technical difficulties in the beginning the job was completed with the utmost professionalism. I did have to place a call to have the Master Locksmith return to fix and complete the job. The original locksmith made some minor errors that were promptly corrected. Apparently he tried to rekey locks that needed to be replaced. The company bought the new hardware and did not charge me for it. I will definitely call them when it is time to convert my doors to FOB entry. Good service, good technicians, and a good company."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

If your door handle turns without opening, the most likely culprit is a loose or stripped spindle. This part connects the handles to the latch mechanism, and when it’s not properly engaged, turning the handle does nothing. Other issues might include a broken latch, loose screws, or even something small blocking an inner mechanism. In any case, it’s usually a matter of tightening, adjusting, or replacing a worn-out part inside the handle assembly—or calling in a professional to do it for you.

Smart door locks are safe to use and are usually considered safer than traditional locks with keys. While all electronic devices can be hacked, that doesn’t happen nearly as frequently in real life as people may think. You can also invest in multiple locks of different types for enhanced security so you don’t rely solely on one smart lock.

Newer, electric-powered door locks generally have a life span of five years or less. That’s thanks, in large part, to a phenomenon called planned obsolescence, in which products are programmed to need replacing after a certain amount of time. That’s also why older, manual, push-key locksets can last up to 30 years with regular cleanings and maintenance. When it does come time for a new set-up, know that the cost to change locks ranges from $130 to $500 on average.

Yes, most pros encourage you to change your locks when you move into a new home. While the previous owner may hand you their keys, you have no way of knowing whether other copies exist elsewhere. Changing your locks as soon as you move in is a great way to ensure that you can enjoy new, fully functioning locks that will work with your unique key or code.

In some cases this is possible, but it’s not advisable as the screwdriver is likely to leave marks all over the wall and a noticeable dent on the door. Move slowly and carefully if you have to use this method, and consider calling an emergency locksmith right away instead of trying to break in.
