"We had extensive damage to our solar panel wiring from squirrels. Tim did a thorough and careful job repairing the wiring and installing exclusion screens. He was responsive, reliable, and expert. His work quality is excellent, and his pricing, fair - we highly recommend him!"

"We bought a house that had a generator on the property. The previous owner bought it through Kapital Electric and had an annual maintenance agreement with them, so we sort of just "took over" and continued using them for maintenance.
The maintenance went well - there wasn't really anything wrong with the generator, so the technician just inspected everything, changed oil and spark plugs. He did a good job though of explaining how things work, since we weren't involved in choosing the generator and weren't around for the installation - basically, didn't know much about it.
The only blemish was the initial scheduling - the first time when we had the appointment scheduled and I took time off work to be there, the technician was delayed at previous appointments (as it turned out later) and never made it to our house. And no one called us to let us know, nor did anyone answer the phone when we tried to call the business towards the end of the window when they were supposed to come.  On the first day for which we wanted to have the appointment rescheduled no one was available, so we rescheduled for a week later from the original date. After that though, everything went fine, with email reminder/confirmation from them a couple of days before the appointment and a courtesy call from the technician when he was already on the way. So I'd assume that the initial scheduling incident was a hiccup, and would still use them in the future.

"Spence is easy to work with and up front about everything. We signed our contract in July 2019 with Sun Run. Spence would come by the house or call and check to make sure everything was going as planned. Honestly we did have small issue when a wrong piece was shipped while installing the solar panels but he made sure we were kept up to date on what was happening. We have had Sun Run for 2 years now and strongly recommend solar energy. The bills are so much lower in comparison to what our Com Ed bills had been. As senior citizens we are able to stay within a budgeted plan. We are so grateful to Spence for all his caring and assistance. If we have any questions he will always call us back quickly, if he happens to be in a meeting or on the phone with someone. We highly recommend having Spence guide you through setting you up with solar panels. The savings for us has been incredible. I actually called him this morning to thank him again for everything he did to help us."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Solar well pumps range from needing 200 watts of power to as much as 12,000 watts for heavy-duty pumps. Since the most common and cost-friendly solar panels are 100-watt panels, you’ll need between two and 12 panels. The average is between two and eight panels for standard pumps. Based on the average cost of solar panels ($1 to $1.50 per watt), you’d pay between $200 and $1,800 for your well pump solar panels—not including installation.

Yes, it is possible to install solar panels on a tar and gravel roof, but it is not the ideal roofing material for a solar installation. The process requires roof penetrations to install the solar racking system. While installers will seal these penetrations, they still increase the risk of leaks. This risk is higher on tar and gravel roofs, which are often flat. Flat roofs are more prone to leaks than sloped roofs because they can pool water during heavy rain and hold snow for longer periods, exposing the roof to more moisture.

Professionals use the same methods to install solar shingles that they do for asphalt shingles, so you’ll often see a similar installation timeline of one to two days. The amount of time required will depend on the size and slope of your roof and the number of shingles installed. Weather conditions can delay installation, as working on a roof is unsafe during high winds or heavy rain.

Solar panels should get at least four to six hours of direct sunlight daily. It’s even better if sunlight reaches panels between the peak hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. This is enough to power a home, depending on your solar system’s size and energy needs. Remember that panels will generate some power under cloudy skies or in the shade, and many systems compensate for lower sun exposure by drawing energy from the grid or battery storage.

You can install solar panels on a flat or pitched roof, but keep in mind that they will need to rest at a 30- to 50-degree tilt for optimal sun absorption. It costs more to install solar panels on a flat roof because you will need to install a framing system and likely hire a structural engineer. If your roof has a pitch of more than 40 degrees, it may not be a good candidate for solar panels.
