We asked for an estimate for EVSE. We have a parking slab off the alley (so no garage w/ electric). We talked about lots of options for that. They seemed very comfortable with our situation which isn't entirely straight forward and I really appreciated that as I was afraid that many of the installers who do this work would want to walk away from any significant work.
We received an estimate for hooking into our panel and trenching a line through the back yard to the parking slab. We discussed using an existing basketball hoop mount as the mount point which the estimator was happy to consider (the stands for chargers are insanely expensive). We talked about solar on homes and parking canopies with solar as well.
Overall we are not ready to take the dive with this yet but I've come away with a decent understanding of the service, cost, and more. Kapital will be first on our list when it's time to move.
Thanks guys!
My luck that they didn't respond so i went with another company that charged less than half of what Kapital wanted and did an excellent job.
I am guessing Kapitol is quoting twice the normal rate since IL had a 50% installation Rebate that ended last month.
The maintenance went well - there wasn't really anything wrong with the generator, so the technician just inspected everything, changed oil and spark plugs. He did a good job though of explaining how things work, since we weren't involved in choosing the generator and weren't around for the installation - basically, didn't know much about it.
The only blemish was the initial scheduling - the first time when we had the appointment scheduled and I took time off work to be there, the technician was delayed at previous appointments (as it turned out later) and never made it to our house. And no one called us to let us know, nor did anyone answer the phone when we tried to call the business towards the end of the window when they were supposed to come. On the first day for which we wanted to have the appointment rescheduled no one was available, so we rescheduled for a week later from the original date. After that though, everything went fine, with email reminder/confirmation from them a couple of days before the appointment and a courtesy call from the technician when he was already on the way. So I'd assume that the initial scheduling incident was a hiccup, and would still use them in the future.
The reason I rated the Quality a "C" is because of the product. I had a generator fuel regulator issue, signaling to the transfer switch issue (needed a control board replacement) and Remote Monitor device issue. Kapital Electric repaired the issues (except the Monitor) but my confidence in this generator is weak. I guess time will tell. Glad I have the long Warranty.
After signing our contract, we had to wait a few weeks while our gas company looked over our appliances to determine if we needed a new gas meter, which we did (cost about $100). Don gave us the form to send to the gas company where I had to go around the house and list all gas appliances and their BTUs. As soon as the new gas meter was installed and the permit was pulled they were able to schedule us within a week. Our installation took 2 days. The first day the electrician came out and did just about all of the electric work. He returned the next morning to finish up for an hour or two. Then the gas man came out in the afternoon to finish the connection. He even gave us a new T connection with shutoff valve for our propane grill which I have converted into natural gas. After the hookup was complete, he tested the unit and showed me all the essential things I need to know about the unit and the switch panel.
The entire crew was very professional and did everything right. They made sure not to track any dirt or mud into the house, they cleaned up after themselves and they worked hard to get the job done right and quickly. I would definitely recommend them to anyone interested in purchasing a generator for their house.
