Kapital Electric installed a NEMA 14-50 system outlet in my garage. However, shortly after the install, as my car was charging, I noticed that the Tesla charging cable was no longer working. It was the Gen 1 Cable that came with my 2014 model vehicle so I figured it was just an old cable that had gone bad. However, when I plugged in the new cable (gen 2) I ordered, after a few weeks of charging off the 14-50 system, it had the same problem. Neither one worked anymore, even with the normal wall plug attachment (120v). I had Kapital come out to check their install since I never had any issues before with Tesla charging cords. They stated that the voltages coming into the charger were too high and that was what was likely causing the charging cables to blow out. Here's where the problem is: their solution for this was to attempt to charge me an extra $1200 for a buck-boost transformer to fix the problem. During their initial estimates, they never stated that higher voltage was even potentially a problem (otherwise I never would have had them install the 14-50 charger). I've already spent $3000+ for them to install a circuit that is unusable since it is destroying my charging cables (a single cable is $250) and now they want more money to fix a problem they should have informed me of prior to install. They refused to work with me at all on the price and refused to accept responsibility for any of the problems I've experienced since they installed the equipment. I will never work with them again for any reason.

Kapital Electric recommended, furnished, and improperly installed 10 of these Exterior Light Fixtures on my home. Then refused to repair or replace them when they leaked after the very next rain.

A botched installation of solar power arrays in 2016 was followed by botched corrective action in February 2017. Kapital has promised many times to fix the problem, but never gets past the promise stage. The final occupancy permit from the Village is held up by Kapital’s delay, so a 2016 project is still not complete two years later.

I met with Don and he worked with me on the price and configuration for a GE unit. However, the unit we agreed upon would not be approved by the Wilmette Village so he switched it to the Kohler unit. During this time, communication was irregular and only updated when I asked. The installation did not go well. The installer parked on the edge of my parking pad and crushed the lip but afterwards Don claimed no responsibility and was quite aggressive about it. They poured the concrete pad high to make it level rather than dig down on one side and I had to put in a raised bed to accommodate it. The generator housing was somehow bent during installation and 10 months later they replaced the hinges and its now able to close. The gas lines were never buried properly. They know (sales and installers) what they were doing and it operates properly.

We bought a house that had a generator on the property. The previous owner bought it through Kapital Electric and had an annual maintenance agreement with them, so we sort of just "took over" and continued using them for maintenance.
The maintenance went well - there wasn't really anything wrong with the generator, so the technician just inspected everything, changed oil and spark plugs. He did a good job though of explaining how things work, since we weren't involved in choosing the generator and weren't around for the installation - basically, didn't know much about it.
The only blemish was the initial scheduling - the first time when we had the appointment scheduled and I took time off work to be there, the technician was delayed at previous appointments (as it turned out later) and never made it to our house. And no one called us to let us know, nor did anyone answer the phone when we tried to call the business towards the end of the window when they were supposed to come.  On the first day for which we wanted to have the appointment rescheduled no one was available, so we rescheduled for a week later from the original date. After that though, everything went fine, with email reminder/confirmation from them a couple of days before the appointment and a courtesy call from the technician when he was already on the way. So I'd assume that the initial scheduling incident was a hiccup, and would still use them in the future.

They're very thorough and they're very polite. They're very helpful. They can be really pricey. It just kind of depends on what type of maintenance service customers have and what type of generator they buy. We have a maintenance agreement with them.

Representative was very knowledgeable and responsive to questions.  Good follow-up from initial contact at "green" fair.  Unfortunately, the actual installation will not occur for about four months.

Kapital Electric did it all and on schedule. The Account Manager/Engineer, Don Butler, even handled all the permits and licensing since I'm in an un-incorporated area. The installation performed by their electrician Lorenzo was very professional. He was very accommodating and easy to work with.
The reason I rated the Quality a "C" is because of the product. I had a generator fuel regulator issue, signaling to the transfer switch issue (needed a control board replacement) and Remote Monitor device issue. Kapital Electric repaired the issues (except the Monitor) but my confidence in this generator is weak. I guess time will tell. Glad I have the long Warranty.

From  the beginning, the entire staff was helpful and very informative.  I was kept informed and all my questions were answered.  I tapped into their expertise and got good advice about features and options available.  The install was rather involved, but the work crew worked very hard and continuously and they answered all my questions.  The install passed all the inspections by my home town.  The generator has been running it's weekly 20 minute test and has been performing as promised for 2 months.  Based on my experience, I highly recommend Kapital to anyone looking to purchase a back up generator.  I should also mention the price was competitive with other contractors and they did work with me on the price.

The personnel were prompt and very personable. The manager Don works hard to bring a good product. He was readily available and willing to answer questions. He took a lot of time with us in choosing and purchasing a generator, visiting our home twice before we made a decision. Kaplan did exactly what they said and made sure that we were COMPLETELY satisfied. The generator is wonderful, works in a consistent and excellent fashion, and we have called Kaplan with service questions and they are readily available and willing to help with any Generator needs, at any time of the day. Our only concern was that we felt we needed to be better informed about the process between them, the village, and the gas company in installing the generator. We lost some time with this, and it delayed our installation. However, when I expressed this to the manager, he was very sensitive to our concerns, and immediately adjusted our bill accordingly for the loss of time. I would definitely use Kaplan Electric again and I do highly recommend them for any electrical servicing. Don really enjoys what he does, and it is reflected in his work and in his team of workers. He gives great 5-star customer service, something you don't always see these days. It is very refreshing.

We met Don at a home expo show.  We setup the appointment for that same week and he showed up on time.  He was able to schedule an evening consultation so I would not have to miss work.  His company worked with both GE and Generac, however GE had a better warranty, it is a smaller, more efficient unit and it allowed us to move 10 breakers over to the new switch panel compared to the Generac 8 KW model which only allowed for 8 breakers.  His quote was very concise and he explained that there would be additional costs bared by us that would be outside the quote.  These additional costs were village permit costs and the possibility of needing an updated gas meter installed, which we did.  At least it was nice knowing these extra costs were involved before signing a contract and being blind sided.  The unit with installation came in around $3,900 and we added an oil heater for $300 since we live near Chicago and the winters can be harsh.
After signing our contract, we had to wait a few weeks while our gas company looked over our appliances to determine if we needed a new gas meter, which we did (cost about $100).  Don gave us the form to send to the gas company where I had to go around the house and list all gas appliances and their BTUs.  As soon as the new gas meter was installed and the permit was pulled they were able to schedule us within a week.  Our installation took 2 days.  The first day the electrician came out and did just about all of the electric work.  He returned the next morning to finish up for an hour or two.  Then the gas man came out in the afternoon to finish the connection.  He even gave us a new T connection with shutoff valve for our propane grill which I have converted into natural gas.  After the hookup was complete, he tested the unit and showed me all the essential things I need to know about the unit and the switch panel.
The entire crew was very professional and did everything right.  They made sure not to track any dirt or mud into the house, they cleaned up after themselves and they worked hard to get the job done right and quickly.  I would definitely recommend them to anyone interested in purchasing a generator for their house.
