"Adrian arrived right on time and explained that he would be doing by himself. He surveyed the house where the intake and vents were located and proceeded to hook up the giant vacuum outside the house running the giant tube through our basement window. He also cleaned out each vent on the outside and inserted a whip that was inserted into each open vent that knocked the dust and dirt out of the system and took it to the giant vacuum bag outside. He showed us before and after pictures. Adrian did a great job!"

"Porterhouse Heating and Cooling was very professional and knowledgeable on the service provided. I used them to install my air conditioner unit. Eventhough, the unit was not my issue, they still came out and was able to find the issue and fix it. They were friendly, professional, and reasonably priced. I will definitely use again for any of my HVAC concerns."

"Went okay. Based on some of my past tuneups, I felt like the tech could have done a little more. For example, tech had no vacuum to clean the bottom of inside the furnace. I am not sure he did any cleaning of the INSIDE of my central air unit either, but he did a great job using the hose to clean the side vents, etc., with the garden hose. Also not sure if he ever used that device with the hoses and gauge usually used to check pressure or is it Freon? For $89.95 for each (central air and furnace), I expect a super thorough job. I can’t get around these tuneups or I will void my warranty. I want to feel uber confident I am getting my moneys worth. Tech was super nice and very professional!"

"Gentlemen arrived promptly and got right to work vacuuming and cleaning overhead air vents. He described quality of each one as he worked on it. Did not use brush since vents would have been scratched due to the material. I appreciated that."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

Whether talking about a whole-house central vacuum or a portable vacuum cleaner, the expected cost of major repair work should always be balanced against its replacement cost. However, excluding high-cost motor replacements or major electrical trouble, repairs on a central vacuum system are typically far less than the cost of purchasing and installing a new one.

Regular cleaning, sealing, and inspections help identify problems early and maintain aesthetics.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.
