"Mr. Holtzclaw is an extremely professional, friendly, and HONEST individual. He came to my home and went right to work, explaining to me the work and the issues he confronted all of the way through the process. When he completed the project, he charged a very FAIR price which was lower than I had been quoted by bigger operations for the same work. I highly recommend Holtzclaw Electric."

"Gentleman who owns Solarize was professional and courteous. He communicated well with the manufacturer and convinced them that a replacement inverter was needed based on the data he saw and the manufacturer had seen. It's what we were hoping for."

"They provided the best workmanship I ever experienced in my life. They cleaned up after themselves, kept us safe and made us aware of a few electrical problems. They care about there reputation and others. I have recommended them to everyone that ever needed any electrical work done. They would provide great customer service by quick follow up. The best of the best."

"He is a knowledgeable electrician. Problem is that there was an extra cost due to the new breaker box needing extra wire and the meter switch was broken during the installation process. He still has not come back to put the door on the box and there are NO labels for the breakers. I have messaged him several times and I have gotten no response. Of course I had already paid him. In my book, that is poor service."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Just as fluorescent lights are more efficient than incandescent lights, LED lights are more efficient to run than fluorescent lights. The specifics will vary from product to product, but LED lights are typically twice as efficient as equivalent fluorescent lights. A 13-watt CFL bulb can replace a 60-watt incandescent bulb, but a 6- to 8-watt LED bulb can offer the same amount of brightness. Fluorescent lights offer about 50 lumens per watt, while LEDs offer about 100 lumens per watt. LED light bulbs typically last two to three times as long as CFL bulbs, too.

Wiring an outlet can be done safely by someone with the proper knowledge and tools, but it can also be dangerous if not done correctly. If you're not comfortable working with electrical systems, it's best to hire a licensed electrician to do the job for you. That way, you can rest assured that your outlet will be rewired safely and quickly.

Services by electricians can quickly get expensive, but there are a few ways you can save money in the process:

  • Bundle multiple jobs done at the same time to save on trip fees or flat fees for individual projects.

  • Get at least three quotes for service to find the best deal.

  • Buy fixtures, switches, outlets, and other materials beforehand to avoid product markup.

  • If you feel comfortable with it, have an apprentice or journeyman complete the work under the supervision of a master electrician. These electricians in training tend to charge less per project.

For a 200-amp underground service, you need a minimum of #2/0 American Wire Gauge (AWG) copper or #4/0 AWG aluminum or copper-clad wire. Don’t forget that, at minimum, you’ll need to use a 1 1/2-inch schedule 40 or 80 PVC conduit to successfully run a 200-amp underground service.

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.
