Customers say: Quick response

"We initially hired Darren to replace a Formica countertop in our kitchen. Work was performed on time and on budget. Darren respected our privacy, cleaned up after each day, and demonstrated a high quality attitude and approach to the work. Based on the initial work, we asked Darren to make some small repairs, which led to repair or a skylight leak, which led to painting , which led you to multiple rooms of painting, which led to the installation of a new gas cooktop, which led to some electrical lighting replacement. Darren demonstrated great skill diversity / plumbing, electrical, mechanical, painting, exterior repairs, and carpentry. The convenience of having someone to address various tasks that would have been a challenge for DIY was of tremendous value to us. Darren also demonstrated flexibility in work hours, and came back on a weekend to finish a critical activity to support our needs. We would readily call Darren again to help us on other tasks bs DIY."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

It’s often best to spray on deck sealer. Sprayers can apply sealant more quickly and evenly than rolling while still enabling you to reach tight spaces. When using a sprayer, always use a low-pressure setting at a close distance to ensure an even application. Avoid using sprayers on windy days.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

There are deck restoration products and oil-based wood stains that can help bring back some of the color and shine to your faded Trex decking. However, if your boards are suffering from serious fading due to UV rays or chemical cleaning products, don’t expect miracles. Also, these products are only suitable for use on the older Trex boards, not the capped, second-generation Trex products.

Yes, it's a good idea to sand the wall with fine-grit sandpaper after spackling, especially if you plan on painting. You can do this by hand or using a sander, but the idea is to ensure the spackle is flush with the wall. Sanding will give your wall a smooth, uniform finish and help your paint and wallpaper stay put.
