"We worked closely with Dean on the entire project from our initial meeting, to hardscape and landscape designs and installation. During the project he was onsite every day and was highly communicative. We trusted Dean so my wife and I felt comfortable being out of town during the project. Dean was highly communicative with daily updates, pictures and videos. He went above and beyond on everything from finding us rare plantings and making sure the neighbors had any questions answered. The project was for the back yard, but since he had extra premium mulch he instructed his team to install it throughout the front of the house. As mentioned, we were away for the project so he bought us and set-up sprinklers, hoses and timers so everything was well watered. This organization has been great to work with and we can't wait to do the front of the house with D&D!"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Many ways to landscape a steep slope on a budget exist. Avoiding expensive retaining wall construction is the first step. Consider creating a rocky slope with boulders or large stones, or think about planting perennials that return every year with a single investment. Transplanting small trees from elsewhere on your property is also possible and can help to stabilize steep slopes without purchasing new ones.

How tall your mulch should be around your tree depends on the type of mulch you use, but aim for 3 to 4 inches as a rule of thumb. You’ll want to avoid simply piling it up in hopes of offering additional benefits to your tree. Volcano mulching is the infamous term for piling way too much mulch against the stem of your tree. This could actually kill your tree or severely harm it, as your tree trunk needs space to breathe without too much moisture.

The cost of 200 square feet of pea gravel depends on how deep your installation will be. The pea gravel material alone costs between $15 and $75 per cubic yard. You'll need just under two yards to cover 200 square feet to a depth of three inches, for a total cost of between $30 and $150.

The most important part of preparing the ground for an above ground pool is leveling. Your above ground pool must rest on a completely level surface or it can collapse. Make sure you also remove grass and debris that could puncture the liner. This includes things like vegetation, rocks, twigs, and roots.

The best way to keep dirt around your foundation is to ensure your drainage is working properly and redirecting water well away from the foundation. Soil erosion is one of the most common causes of basement flooding, so it’s important to make sure you’re retaining the soil you replaced after learning how to regrade around the foundation. In addition, your foundation planting can also help prevent erosion. For example, plant roots to help keep soil in place.
