"I had asked Menards for a list of recommended contractors who specialized in laminate countertops for a specific re-laminate project for my vintage kitchen counters. I contacted Jose who assured me he was skilled at this and put together the kitchen displays at Menards. He showed me his work and we agreed on a contract. After the first week, I had already noticed issues with how the work was progressing. The cuts to the laminate sheeting weren’t straight and he was using a buzz saw instead of a dremel to make cuts. However, he insisted that he was nowhere near done and to let him finish. Week two came and it was obvious he had absolutely no clue what he was doing. The laminate wasn’t sticking, multiple stress cracks were appearing where the sink was reinstalled and he used so much caulk to correct his mistakes that it looked like a tub of Cool Whip exploded. Finally, enough was enough. I contacted his wife (his business manager) multiple times with pictures showing the extent of his shoddy work and was suddenly ghosted. Didn’t own up to his mistakes or admit any wrong doing. To add insult to injury, he used my second 4’ x 8’ as a practice sheet and threw it out without my knowledge. Now I’m left with an embarrassing unusable kitchen, no material to correct it and thousands of dollars down the drain. Luckily, I found a new contractor and am lucky enough to have the ability to just replace his abomination with quartz, but my dream of renovating my vintage counters is now over. I went back and forth about posting a negative comment, and finally decided I don’t want anyone else to have to go through this experience."
