"We wanted to get on board with the current trend in doorbell cameras. Got a quote from ADT Provider, known as Safe Street USA, and felt their offer was more than fair. We have door sensors and motion detectors inside and the doorbell camera mounted outside. Nice to feel “with the times” in home automation and security."

"We didn’t realize how many items could be integrated into our ADT security system. But after speaking with the helpful representative on the phone for about 10 minutes, we decided to go forward with their full home automation package. Not only are the doors and windows secure, but we can control lights, the thermostat, and the garage door."

"After we gave them our down payment, it took 2 months to get an installation appointment. We had to call them several times to check on the status of our door, and ultimately had to resort to threaten a call to the Consumer Fraud Division of our state if they did not get the door installed by a certain time. On the day we were supposed to have the door installed, I had taken off work, only to get a phone call half an hour after the guy was supposed to be there, that he was sick and we would have to re-schedule. We did, and he did show up on the new day. There was only one guy working (a second guy showed up for part of the time), but most of the time there was just the one guy. Two weeks ago I called them because we misplaced the information that we need for the tax rebate, so I wanted them to just give me the information. I left a message with their service and never heard back. I called them again a couple of days later, and left another message for Stacy, this time with another employee. Never heard back. I called today and actually talked to Stacy, and she said that she would get the papers in the mail to me today. I'm curious to see if it actually happens."

"First, we had a very difficult job that most wouldn't take on because we had an old stucco home and we wanted siding and windows and a lot of prep work was needed before siding could even get put on. That's what we were very thoroughly told before we signed with them and what we saw once the project began. We also threw a curve ball at them when we added two doors after signing, but they accommodated and we were very happy we added them to the project. What most impressed me was the cost they gave us didn't change once the project was complete, I have to tell you I was worried about that, but we were reassured the price we were given is what the price will be at the end of the project. The installers were very professional and courteous and mindful of walkways we use in keeping stuff out of the way. At the end they did a walk around to make sure we were happy with everything and we VERY happy. We love our new home! Well looks like a new home to us."

"We signed a contract with Cronkhite Home Solutions to have windows and siding installed. After the kitchen window was put in we contacted Shayne Diebel because it was not level and it was also not finished well. There were gaps left in the wood and knotholes in the trim they put around the inside of the window. We decided we would rather have a different window and we were given an estimate, but he never came by with a contract. When they came out to put in the front door Lowes did not have the French door kit to go with the storm doors. The worker told me that the boss wanted the last $1000 for the job but since the storm doors weren’t in I was uncomfortable paying for the rest of the job since the job wasn’t done. I paid him $500. Once I got the storm doors straightened out with Lowes I texted Shayne and the worker who installed the door. Shayne replied telling me someone would take care of it. Lowes started calling every couple of days and whenever they called, I would text the contractor to let him know that the doors needed to be picked up. This went on for about three months. I finally texted them saying that it was obvious that they were not interested in finishing the job and I may as well keep the last $500 to hire another contractor to finish the job. I never got a reply. On the first windy day after the siding was installed, a piece of aluminum fascia board fell off the eaves over the garage. I texted repeatedly and included a picture. Shayne kept telling me the guys would take care of it. To date nothing has been done. Working with this contractor has been frustrating experience. We would just like to have the work completed."

Security Doors questions, answered by experts

In general, daytime visibility for security cameras ranges from 10 to 70 feet. Higher-end cameras may have night vision that records 100 to 200 feet out. When shopping for any type of security camera, it's important to pay attention to focal length, resolution, and infrared technology to get an idea of the depth and crispness that will be used when capturing images.

Yes, keyless locks can deter burglars, mostly because they boost security and offer advanced features. Most models allow for unique codes or temporary access, making it harder for intruders to break in. Many of these smart locks even alert you if someone tries to tamper with them. However, you need to remember that while they provide an added layer of protection, no lock is completely foolproof. Pairing these locks with good security habits—like proper lighting and surveillance cameras—creates a strong defense to help stop intruders in their tracks.

You likely can reset your house alarm without the code, but it depends on many factors like how it’s wired and whether or not there’s a default reset code. Most companies make bypassing a security alarm without entering your code challenging to prevent burglars from simply resetting the alarm during a break-in. Your best bet is to contact your alarm company directly to get specialized support for your situation.

But, while you wait for support, you can disconnect it from the power source to stop the alarm from going off.

Several types of deadbolts are available, including single-cylinder, double-cylinder, rim, smart, and electronic deadbolt locks. The most common type found in U.S. homes is the single-cylinder deadbolt, which uses a key on the exterior and a thumb turn on the interior. A double-cylinder deadbolt features two locking mechanisms and requires a key to be operated from both the inside and the outside.

The average cost to install a home security system is about $750. However, the price can range from as little as $200 for a simple wireless camera setup to $2,000 for a fully monitored, hardwired system. A typical price range is $280 to $1,150. Several factors determine the final cost, including the type of system, equipment, materials, labor, activation fees, monthly surveillance fees, and permits. Optional upgrades will also add to the price, such as video surveillance monitoring ($40–$65 per month), smart locks ($150), smart lighting ($15–$90), smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms ($35–$100), and a smart thermostat ($130–$500).
