"We found this wonderful faith based company online and after a phone call we agreed to an appointment for a free no obligation estimate. We agreed to their very fair prices as well as easy as pie getting us booked. They gave us a date and said we?ll be there at eight sharp. A nice looking young man shows up (10 mins early?. Points for them already) and when I open the door he?s ready with booties to cover his boots, (More points) I thought that was thoughtful. Drop clothes down (points) he begins. Job done splendidly in a reasonable time, even with the extras I asked of him. Sat down after and started chatting it up and finding out that we are veterans offered us a 10% discount on the total bill. (Biggest Points)! Use these guys please, they are a class act. Passing on their name to a realtor friend of ours. Thanks again, really appreciate everything."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install solar panels is around $27,000, with most homeowners paying between $4,500 and $54,000. These prices don’t consider the federal investment tax credit (ITC), which can reduce costs by up to 30%. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of the system needed to offset your energy consumption, the amount of sunlight your home receives, your geographical location, the type and brand of panels, labor costs, and any add-on products like solar batteries or electric vehicle (EV) chargers. It is recommended to get price quotes from at least three solar companies in your area to find the best deal.

The best way to save money on solar panels is to take advantage of federal and state solar incentives. For example, the solar investment tax credit (ITC) offered by the federal government can save 30% of your total—if you can take the entire credit, which is based on income taxes owed—or an average of around $9,000. You can check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) for state and local incentives that could save you even more.

Yes, you have to get on the roof to cut a hole for solar tubing. It's not possible to complete the job from inside your house by simply cutting through the ceiling. So if you want to go the DIY route, remember to use safe ladder practices. If you’re not comfortable climbing on your roof to install solar tubes, hire a pro who has the tools and expertise to do the job safely.

Professionals use the same methods to install solar shingles that they do for asphalt shingles, so you’ll often see a similar installation timeline of one to two days. The amount of time required will depend on the size and slope of your roof and the number of shingles installed. Weather conditions can delay installation, as working on a roof is unsafe during high winds or heavy rain.

The best solar panels to withstand hail are those rated UL 61730. These solar panels are certified to withstand hailstones up to 3 inches in diameter and travel at speeds up to 88 mph. IP68 solar panels are the next most resilient solar panel. Solar panels without these ratings can handle hail up to 1 inch in diameter that travels up to 50 miles per hour. If you live in an area with frequent or severe hailstorms, purchasing UL 61730 solar panels is often worth the investment.
