"Josh and Jessica were great. Josh was very accommodating to my schedule. Jessica came on a Sunday to repair my toilet. She did a great job - took care of the installation of a fill valve really quickly and cleaned up afterwards. Very reasonably priced, too. I would definitely recommend Do It All."

"We decided not to have our garage door replaced just yet -- didn't want to spend $700 or so. Duct tape will hold that one together for now! He did a great job replacing a very old storm door on the font of our house. We had already purchased a replacement door from Home Depot. So, he installed the new door and repaired a side storm door (damaged by a windstorm) the same day for just $100."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

If you plan to put a fire pit on a grassy area, be sure to put compacted paver sand down first to help level out the ground and add better heat protection. If you’re placing a fire pit on hardscaping, like a concrete patio, consider placing a fire pit mat down first. This can add more protection from the heat and also protect the look of your hardscaping if you choose to remove the fire pit in the future.

Your smoke detector might be too high in some homes or circumstances to reach yourself. If you feel unsafe getting on a ladder to replace your hardwired smoke detector, call a licensed electrician or local handyman to knock this project off your to-do list. If you have a battery-operated smoke detector, your local fire department can change the batteries or help you replace the detector—just make sure you call the non-emergency number.

In any case, do not let this project go unresolved, as it could turn into a huge safety issue.

Testing a fire extinguisher by discharging even a small amount will void the warranty on the product. Pushing down the pressure pin on top and waiting to see if it pops up is the best way to ensure it’s still pressurized. If you’re concerned about your extinguisher, hire an expert for a professional inspection.

Asbestos has many beneficial properties, including fire resistance, strength, and chemical resistance. It is also an excellent insulator, which is why it was used in pipe insulation and other building materials for decades. For all its benefits, asbestos is dangerous for human health, which is why it was eventually banned from use in certain products.

A chimney liner isn’t required for an outdoor fireplace; you don’t technically need one if the masonry chimney uses the proper dimensions and is built to code. However, a chimney liner does serve as a protective coating for the flue. Adding a liner could improve performance, safety, and durability. In short, while not necessary, it wouldn’t hurt.
