Lenny and his tradesmen were the best. We had two jobs in the past 5 years. First, Bettendorf Home Repair completely remade our kitchen. We selected all the materials and the installation was first-rate. Then we replaced the 1970's style open stairwell with tempered glass and stained oak for a modern look. The carpentry was done with attention to detail, and the glass was custom-cut to our specifications.

They worked on a simple bathroom remodel for eight weeks. Quality was so poor it was necessary their tiling work be torn out to be redone three times. When I brought in another contractor Lenny, the owner swore at him. They never did finish the job and took more than $8000 of my money. The other contractor did the job in six days.

First of all we went over exactly how we wanted the deck designed with the stairway turning partway down and there being a landing before completing the rest of the stairs down into the yard. Had my husband and I not come home during the day to see what they had done and to find it was being done wrong, it would have had to be started completely over. As it was the guys working swore it was being done according to their plans and argued with us over it. We had to pull out notes and plans we had agreed to and get the boss on the phone to get it straightened out. That should have been our first clue before these idiots started working on our kitchen next. The remodel of our kitchen not only took forever, much arguing, many days of no workers showing up to our home leaving us high and dry, doing drywall work with little to no cover so our entire home was covered in dust, drywall guy would dump his white wash water trays in our FRONT LAWN, uneven plastering to the point we demanded it be redone.

It was totally painless.  I was at work when they did the work and came home and it was all done.  Besides the new wood, almost looked like no one had ever been there!

I was scheduled to have my counter top, sink and faucet installed on October 24th. On the day of my install, I had moved my pets, cleared the area and made sure to have my boyfriend's credit card so I could pay that same day. However, the install didn't happen that day due to someone not ordering the counter top! I called BHR, several times, to get the re-schedule figured out. I was very upset that my job was not completed on that day, especially when I had setup this appointment over a month in advance. The install happened a week later and I again moved my pets and borrowed the credit card for payment. I was told I had to pay *on the day of the job*, otherwise I'd be charged an additional $50 to be invoiced. No one collected payment on that day. I called three times after that, leavingmessages on both the answering machine and with the receptionist.Though I didn't understand why I would be charged $50 to have a bill sent to me, I surely didn't want to pay the extra amount! I finally spoke with Lenny. I asked him if he could bring some extra caulk (I wanted a few areas gone over again - some of the caulk work was a little sloppy) when he came and collected the bill. When I did finally met up with him to settle my bill, he did not bring the caulk. During that visit, I asked him about an extra piece of counter top for the sides, at which point he said he'd check on it and get back to me. To date, and despite a call I made myself to BHR a week after Lenny's visit, I still have not received any info about this item. I feel that no one has been proactive in handling my issues. I have been the one to make all the calls. I shouldn't have to be the one to call and harass a company about work I need to have done. I've been extremely frustrated with every aspect of the company; the way it handles billing/collecting payment and my calls aren't being returned. I will not be doing any more business with your company; I do not have the time nor patience to deal with a company who seems not to care for their customers. I can only hope you're more attentive with your other customers than you've been with me. ------------- Despite sending this letter, I never got a call or response from them. Would not recommend.

I originally had three jobs quoted, 1) Repair a minor roof leak and re-flash joint between roof and siding. 2) Secure a gutter that had pulled away from the fascia. 3) Replace a section of damaged vinyl siding at the entry-way to the front door. The initial quote seemed a bit high, but I rationalized that maybe they were worried that upon removing the shingles they might find some water damage that would be pricey to fix so they had to cover the possibility of the unknown. Normally I would do minor repairs myself, but I had similar worries about what I might find upon starting the job so I opted for the pros.

I opted to have all three jobs completed and it turned out that there was no significant water damage on the roof - only a minor issue with improper flashing that allowed water to run off the roof and down wall rather than stay on the roof and drain to the gutter. From what I can see the entire repair only required removal of a few sections of shingles (they replaced with new so I can tell what was done) and I can't imagine how the job took more than a few hours to complete including the gutter repair. I received a bill for $1350 which I feel was a bit excessive for the work done, but even so I paid as it really wasn't worth complaining.

My biggest issue is that they never completed the siding repair by the front door as was initially quoted. It was supposed to be a simple $300 repair, yet on the day they completed the roofing job I returned home from work and saw that they didn't fix the siding. I figured maybe they just didn't have time to get to it, but after a week of waiting I called the office to find out what was going on. The lady in the office seemed confused stating that the entire job had been done and approached it like I was trying to get a new quote. I explained to her the situation and even gave her the original estimate number that I was referencing. But then a week later I get a quote stating that it was going to cost me almost $600 for them to do the work that was originally quoted for $300. By this time I had had enough of the run around and figured it best to cut my losses.

The quality of work was good best I can tell (at least my roof is no longer leaking) and the price seems to have been a bit too high, but providing a quote, doing part of the work, then playing dumb about the rest of the job and sending out a second quote for twice the original price seems incredibly unprofessional to me. I could have understood a requote if the scope of the work had changed or a change order if work was added to the original scope - but the way things went down did not give me a good feeling that Bettendorf Home Repair Inc has their act together. In the future I will try my luck with another contractor.
