"Elmer was awesome at communicating. He got back to me when he said he would, showed up when he promised, and did exactly what we discussed. I changed a few things on our patio a couple of times, and he was very accommodating through all of that. The patio looks very niceâ ¦we are very happy. I would definitely use them again!!"

Customers say: Quick response

"This guy was reliable, timely, and very personable. He installed a concrete ramp for my driveway to my house. I am in a wheelchair, so this changed my life. At first I was concerned. The quote was very reasonable. But my walk was done in three days and it is beautiful."

"AMP replaced my old deck and added a pergola. Because I decided to keep the existing under carriage they leveled and added more support for the new decking which went both horizontal and lateral. All waste material was cleaned daily and the work was completed in a timely fashion at a reasonable rate. They did an outstanding job and I highly recommend AMP Construction for any building project."

Patios questions, answered by experts

A screened-in porch requires maintenance to keep the screens clean and in good shape, and you may have to do some screen repair or replacement from time to time. A screen porch isn’t an all-season porch, so the weather can get in, including wind and rain.

Yes, you can build a sunroom addition to your home despite living in a cold climate. Make sure to use high-quality insulation and windows and to supplement with sufficient heating from your HVAC system. The windows in the sunroom allow enough natural light into the room to help heat it most times without having to use the furnace. Even a small electric fireplace can heat the sunroom well enough.

Prefab kits like a small sunroom for around $20,000 or even a basic gazebo roof for as little as $60 can save you big over professional installation. However, you lose the option for customization, and these structures tend not to last nearly as long. As for bigger projects like a deck or patio, you shouldn’t go with the DIY route unless you’re fully prepped with the tools and know-how to get it done right. Mistakes can be frustrating and costly, so choose a pro if you’re looking to eliminate your risk of error.

Yes, a sunroom will require a permit. You may just need a general construction permit for a screened-in porch or solarium. For a three-season room with electricity and a four-season room with electric, heating, and cooling, you’ll need additional permits for each of the utilities, as well as a roofing permit.

The life span of your solarium will depend on the materials used and how much wear and tear the room experiences from the inside and from the outside due to weather. On average, you can expect your solarium to last anywhere from 10 years to 50 or more. In rare cases, such as with old estates, solariums can last over 100 years.
