He let me know what time they would get to my job and everything that was going on during the work process. This is something that a lot of contractors just fail to do in my past experiences. Their bid was Fair to both me and the company. They did an excellent job on preparing the site and pouring the concrete. What everybody fears the most when they hire someone to work at their home is the people that are working there trustworthy? Are they going to be trips in and out of the house to use the bathroom? Al's people were wonderful. They did not make a mess outside leaving cans and bottles laying around all trash was picked up each day. They left everything all nice and clean and smoothed out some rough spots where the skid loader was at and where there was extra concrete dumped. I was really impressed with these people. Though they may look similar, tar and bitumen come from different sources. Bitumen is a petroleum product—extracted during crude oil refining—and is mostly made up of hydrocarbons. This helps transfer some of the stress from the asphalt to the ground underneath. If your driveway doesn’t have proper edging, the pressure from your car may break down the edges over time.

The decision to repair or replace your driveway depends on the extent of the damage. If your driveway has a few small cracks, a simple repair will do the trick. If you see larger cracks and potholes, it may be time to consider resurfacing or replacement. Resurfacing is a great option if more than 25% of the surface is damaged, but if the damage is extensive—deep cracks or significant sinking—it’s best to replace the driveway entirely. A new driveway, with proper care, can last decades while patching or resurfacing might only hold up for a few years before needing more attention.

Things like gravel, crushed shells, or even sand works with shallow potholes. For larger damages, use cold patch asphalt or a concrete mix. Make sure you compress the material enough so it stays intact against the traffic. Loose gravel is the most affordable option in most cases, but concrete is often the most reliable and durable.

In general, crack fillers last for about two years on average. That timeline can be shorter if you have extremely harsh winters or longer if you live in a mild climate. Luckily, this product is pretty affordable at the hardware store (about $10 to $30) and easy to DIY, so redoing it every few years shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.
