"Excellent to work with, very professional and quick! They removed two large dying trees from my front yard and went above and beyond to clean up some volunteer trees that were getting a little out of control. The work was completed in a very timely manner and for a very reasonable price."

"I hired M and G to mow our yard.. Because I had some medical issues I was unable to mow myself. I reached out to Fernando and he was here the following morning. I have always done my own yard work and was very happy with the job and that it was done as well or better than before. I well continue to use M and G for future project as well. Nice job."

"These guys couldn't possibly have done better. When I couldn't get other arborists to even return my messages, Bojan called immediately upon being notifed by HomeAdvisor. He came over the same day to look at the job and took care of it less than a week later. Bojan knows so much about trees. Not just about trimming and removal, but about growth, and seasons to trim (or not), and how to keep trees healthy. Fantastic crew (they even RAN around picking up branches). All were very polite, courteous, and efficient. I already have more work lined up for them. Don't let 'em get away."

"Our Association has not yet made a decision on the project. It may likely be delayed until spring. The review of our concerns was done professionally and the proposal was delivered as he had promised."

"It is hard-pressed to find a company that communicates as well as they get the job done but the guys at Arborway have been amazing. They were quick to come out and give us a quote. Called the day before to let us know the time they would be here. Were here on time. The crew of 5-6 guys worked skillfully & ambitiously to get the trees trimmed (even in the rain!). Cleaned up all debris. Unfortunately, one of our trees may not make it. Not only were they able to give us a quote to take down that tree, they referred us to an arborist to make sure nothing else come be done before having to take it down. It was clear that these guys are true professionals and care about their customers. Will definitely use Arborway for all our future tree needs."

"Thank you Darwin Miller and crew for doing an excellent job removing two trees and tree trimming. You went the extra mile by spreading the chips in an area that needed mulch. Appreciate your attention to detail and care in all you do."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

Trees should be pruned every two to five years, depending on its age and type. Young trees should be inspected and pruned every two to three years. Mature trees should be inspected and trimmed every three to five years, and fruit trees should be pruned annually with a careful eye on seasonal growth. Evergreens typically don’t need pruning, unless branches or limbs are damaged, diseased, or harboring pests.

Since overwatering can harm mature trees just as much as a lack of water, it’s important to know the signs of an overwatered tree. If your tree’s leaves are yellowing, wilting, or dropping leaves, it’s likely that you’re overwatering. Other common signs include rotting, fungi, soggy soil, soft or peeling bark, falling leaves, and brittle roots.

If you realize that you’ve been overwatering your mature tree, stop watering and give the soil time to dry out. Then moving forward, increase time between watering sessions.

In general, trees should be planted no closer than 15 to 20 feet from your foundation. For larger trees with far-reaching roots like maples, oaks, or poplars, a good guide is to plant as many feet from your home as the tree’s height is expected to reach at maturity. Some trees, like elms and willows, should only be planted far from where their roots may encounter sewer or water lines.

Make sure the tree roots soak around a day before you dig the tree up for the transplant. Keep the roots wet while the tree is above ground. After the transplant is finished, provide consistent water every day for the first month or so. You don’t want to overwater the tree, but you do want to keep the roots wet so they can thrive in their new environment.
