"National Radon Defense Midwest employees were very knowledgeable and helpful. As we were selling our house we discovered that we had high radon readings and needed to mitigate the problem. They explained to us the process and clearly identified what they would recommend to resolve the issue. We thought it was very reasonably priced and feel confident intheir products, staff and installation"

Customers say: True professional

"Jeremy was very professional and did a great job. He had reached out after I scheduled the original appointment to reschedule due to poor weather conditions. He offered to move the appointment to a date/time that he usually doesn t work to accomodate my needs. Once he had finished his work, he walked my fiance and I through everything explained it all very clearly. He also thoroughly explained the process for testing radon levels and getting test results back after the mitigation installation was complete. Would definitely recommend his services as he did a great job and his quote was very competitive."

"They did a great job with the installation and made sure the Radon was under the level it needed to be. He had to make a couple of trips to make that happen but was very polite and profession through the whole process."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Ideally, no one will live in a house with elevated radon levels, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of serious health issues like lung cancer. However, homes with radon can be made safe through mitigation systems, such as active soil depressurization. Testing for radon regularly and addressing high levels helps ensure a safe living environment.

Abatement includes sealing entry points and venting with systems that reduce radon levels below recommended EPA limits. It is handled by certified professionals.

The cost to replace a radon fan ranges from $300 to $600 for the fan itself, with installation adding an additional $200 to $500. Overall, the total cost for replacement can range from $500 to $1,100, depending on factors such as the fan model, home size, and local labor rates. If the fan is part of a larger radon mitigation system, the price may be higher.

Radon is present almost everywhere but, like sunlight, the concentration levels and how often you are exposed to it have a large part to play in just how dangerous it is. There are levels of radon that are acceptable inside a house, but above a certain limit, radon becomes a serious radioactive hazard that is a known cause of lung cancer. In fact, radon exposure is the number two leading cause of lung cancer (after smoking).

If your home has a sump pit, you can integrate it with a radon mitigation system. You can accomplish this by sealing the pump cover with an airtight lid that accommodates radon vent pipes and sump pump hoses. This allows the vent pipe to redirect the radon gas outside of your home.
