"Hoss and team were a great find! We had a large project which included turning our existing deck into a 4 seasons room, a new composite 12x24 deck with steps (and all the bells and whistles), and then a new fire pit. There was someone there every day working on this project. Hoss's crew answered all of my questions and their ability to come up with solutions for any hiccups was great! This was a large undertaking for us and Hoss's team made it seamless. We highly recommend them for any large or small projects. They have customers for life and all of our friends and neighbors have been very impressed . They offered great quality at an affordable price! Thank you!!"

"Ted Brown and his crew with Deck Doctor did a fantastic job with restaining/resealing our wooden deck and steep wooden staircase. We had intermittent rain days to deal with, but Ted's team did a great job working through the rain delays, staying on task, and keeping us advised when work days had to be rescheduled, to allow needed time for the wood deck to dry between the rain dates. Ted is a very nice, easy-going professional, who worked very hard to make sure we were satisfied at every step along the way. He even arranged to power wash our dirty front sidewalk for free, near the end of the day after his team had power washed the deck! Great service and customer care all around!"

"I needed my deck stairs repaired. This involved raising the top of the stairs up into place and engineering a beam system to support the. Ethan responded promptly and offered a solution at a reasonable price. Ethan is a hard worker, very efficient, and doesn't stop until the job is done, plus he is a nice guy. He is now on my go-to list for home maintenance."

Gazebos questions, answered by experts

Log cabins are relatively difficult to maintain compared to a traditional house. That’s because log cabins require regular upkeep and care that can include refinishing and corncob blasting, a process similar to sandblasting that shoots ground-up corncob with compressed air.

Several types of porches are available to meet your needs and style preferences. Some common porch types include:

  • Porticos are essentially a roof over a walkway leading to the home's front entrance.

  • Sunrooms are closed-in porches that are an extension of the house with glass or plastic panels that allow optimal sunlight.

  • Wraparound porches extend around the entire home, or at least the front and one side, and offer multiple entrances to the house.

  • Back porches are an extension of the home’s floor into the outdoors. These offer more protection and privacy than a deck.

Using concrete footers is the best way to secure a gazebo on a deck without drilling. The weight of the footers is more likely to hold your gazebo in place than other methods. You can also pour concrete into flower pots to create an aesthetically pleasing concrete footer or use concrete columns to make a statement.

The average cost to build or install a gazebo is around $5,700, with prices typically ranging from $3,000 to $10,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the gazebo's size, shape, material, and design complexity. For example, square gazebos and those made from metal can be more expensive, while brick is a more affordable material. Adding custom features like built-in seating or lighting will also increase the price. You can potentially save money by purchasing a prefabricated kit or performing some of the labor yourself.

Fascia and soffits differ in their location and design, but fascia vents are the most popular alternative to soffits. These are a bit more hidden than soffits, but depending on the structure of your roof, they can cost more to install and maintain. They are also installed around the entire roof, whereas soffits can be placed only where you need them or, if the aesthetics bother you, somewhere out of sight.
