"They had been servicing our stuff for years. We had a 40 year old air conditioner that they replaced. With the furnace, that was the 3rd furnace in our house. We found out we had a bad heat exchange during a service inspection. It was over 20 years old. The quality of service was excellent. They came out as soon as they could. It could not have been done any faster. There are other heating and air conditioner companies in Des Moines but I have not used anyone else for years."

"They did a good job. They gave me a $40 discount since my ducts were not very dirty. My only comment is they left some particles of dry wall chips on my floor and did not vacuum them up."

"We've never hired an electrician before so the price was a shock to us. Our electrician was very informative as to what he was doing and why and gave us choices before performing the work. He was clean and polite and friendly. He gave us the impression that he truly wanted our satisfaction and that he enjoyed his job."

"We received a great explanation about the options we have that fit our home, everything was very clear and simple we were happy with Jon proposal and we choose Service Legends to replace our HVAC system. The replacement of the old unit was done very professionally, fast and they care and respect of our property, Steven did a very great job and also take time to answer our question about our new units and the simple maintenance required. Everyone at Service legends was great and the name of the company clearly reflect the people the work for them."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

To keep your air conditioner in good working condition, you should have it serviced by a professional at least once per year, ideally in the spring before the cooling season begins. If your AC unit is 10 years or older, consider servicing it twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) to catch potential problems early and help it reach its full lifespan. During a service visit, a technician will inspect, clean, and replace parts as needed. Regular maintenance helps avoid costly repairs. As a DIY task, you can also clean the evaporator coils annually.

A dual evaporator coil is a specific design that allows the AC system to cool different compartments at different levels. It’s usually seen in refrigerators and similar appliances, but not in whole-house air conditioning systems. Talk with your AC technician about the best uses for a dual evaporator coil.

You should know the main components of an air conditioner: the condenser coils, evaporator coils, drip pan, AC filter, ducts, and refrigerant. Each part plays a key role in the performance and safety of your AC system. When tracking the source of AC issues or odors, it helps to know where to look. Your outdoor unit houses your condenser coils, fan, and compressor. Your indoor unit houses your evaporator coils, drain lines, and filter, and it connects to your ductwork.

Yesh, heat pumps can easily cool homes when the weather reaches over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, just as powerful air conditioners can. The key is sizing the heat pump correctly for the size of your home and your climate. A local heat  pump professional can help you determine the right size and type for your home.

The simplest indicator is how long it’s been since your last tune-up. You should schedule an annual AC tune-up each spring. Beyond that, there are multiple signs that your AC needs a quick check by a professional. These issues include higher-than-average energy bills, decreased air flow from vents, higher indoor temperatures, and an air conditioning unit that stays on all the time or frequently turns on and off.
