No, leaving the lights on will not effectively keep roaches away. While roaches are nocturnal and prefer darkness, they don’t avoid lit areas entirely, especially if there’s access to food, water, or shelter. In some cases, roaches may even adapt to light if it means survival, and this becomes even easier if there is clutter and other potential hiding spots available. Instead of relying on lights, focus on eliminating food crumbs, sealing entry points, and reducing clutter and moisture to make your home less inviting to roaches.

Spraying for mosquitos is better than fogging. A mosquito barrier spray is designed to linger on surfaces and kill mosquitos for up to three weeks, and repeated visits from your pest control pro can keep mosquitos out of your yard all season long. Fogging is a short-term fix that only works for about 72 hours and doesn't kill mosquito larvae or eggs. If you’re concerned about the environment, a natural mosquito repellant may be better than either fogging or spraying.

There’s no easy way to calm down swarming wasps, especially if they are already agitated. Stay far away and wait for them to settle down to avoid injury. If you’re attempting to DIY kill a very small wasp nest, wait until night to apply wasp spray, as they are calmest and most docile when it’s dark.

You’ll find that phorid fly larvae breed in moist, decaying, organic matter. When trying to locate a breeding site, thoroughly inspect the following places in your home: drain pipes, trash cans, garbage disposal, pet waste, rotting produce, plants, compost bins, and even under appliances like the stove and refrigerator where moist food may have dropped. It’s also possible for a breeding site to form inside of a wall, crawl space, or under your home’s foundation.

If your stump has a pest problem, don’t worry; it won’t slow down the stump grinding process. It might even speed it up. But you may want to contact pest control afterward if it looks like a spreading infestation.
