"We have several fruit trees in the yard that needed trimming. We had them trimmed several years ago and noticed that they have not been as productive with fruit since. We wanted a company that included arborists to ensure that the tree trimming would result in a healthy and productive tree. We looked at companies with the most favorable Yelp reviews and we called Mana. Cody came to assess the job and gave us a fair price. On the assigned day, he and his crew of 4 came and did a fantastic job of trimming our trees. One of their arborists, Jorge R., was the one who went up the trees and selectively cut branches, while also leaving flowering branches intact so that we could potentially get some fruit from the tree this season. Also, we are able to again see the great view over the lanai now that the trees have been trimmed How we appreciated that! The crew was hard working and respectful. They did a great job cleaning up. Our yard looked cleaner after they left! We are so happy with Mana's work and plan to continue to use their services when we again need our trees trimmed. Mahalo Mana!"

"OFA Landscaping was outstanding. Arrived on time, completed the job quickly and cleaned up everything from the job. The workers was very nice and professional. The Job done then what we expected. The price was very reasonable for cutting down the large tree and removing a huge stumb."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

In most ways, palm trees are incredibly low-maintenance. They don’t need a ton of water—which is why they’re so beloved in desert regions—and they basically prune themselves. But they do need an ample supply of sunlight and to be in soil that will allow for proper drainage so that their roots don’t become waterlogged and at risk of developing illnesses.

If the plant begins to wilt, develop spots, or change color, these could all be signs that your palm tree has a disease. But a few basic treatments, like pruning and applying fungicide, will usually be more than enough to return it to perfect health.

The shepherd’s tree, native to the Kalahari Desert in Africa, holds the record for the deepest known tree roots at over 230 feet deep. Some African communities refer to it as the “Tree of Life” since it provides food, shade, and medicinal properties to the surrounding community.

Yes, you can prune a palm tree with a chainsaw, but a chainsaw is overkill for a job like this. You risk damaging the tree if you make a bad cut. More commonly, you’ll need pruning shears or a serrated knife to trim a palm tree, or you can use a specialized pruning saw instead of a chainsaw.

Transporting a fully-grown tree requires heavy equipment, typically specialized for the task. A tree spade is a truck-mounted tool that removes the tree from the ground in one location, transports it, and places it in a new hole in a new location. A combination of mechanized shovels and lifts is necessary to move very large trees, and the exact tools often depend on location and the surrounding area.

Transplanting a palm tree is a similar process except for a couple of important differences. First, their root ball doesn’t need to be as large as a “true” tree, which makes them a bit easier to dig up and move around. Second, they struggle more with taking root and staying upright in a new location, so it’s important to give them extra support when staking.
