The work went very well indeed. Not only did the guys do the work we agreed, they also planted some palms I had originally intended to plant myself, and trimmed an overgrown hedge. Regarding the hedge, I think Deriek was offended by how ratty it looked and wanted to leave me with a good-looking yard. I will definitely use Monkey Man Tree Care again.

Estimates to remove it were more expensive than it was worth, until I called Dariek. He sent his man over the next day for a third the price of the two others that couldn't do it for at least 10 days. The stump was removed 8 inches below grade. All debris were removed and the area blown, raked and swept clean. The mulch from the stump was distributed to willing neighbors and the rest removed to be used on island. I ABSOLUTELY recommend MonkeyMan Tree Care.. because they took care of me!

The job was exceedingly well done! After checking Angie's List and BBB, I called Deriek, who happened to be nearby, to look over what needed to be done. He took a look at the trees, got down on all fours to eyeball whether the roots went under the house and then said he can start that same day after he comes back with his gear and crew. What happened next was an amazing display of skill that even our neighbors watched and admired. Deriek did all the climbing and cutting by himself using ropes, a chain saw and one helper on the ground. Not one branch fell on our roof or on the neighbor's yard! With a chipper and a stump grinder which he brought the next day, the job was finished to our complete satisfaction. Deriek went the extra mile by beautifying the empty ground where the trees had been with plants that he even bought himself. Deriek takes total pride in providing a good job. His experience and skill is so evident in his work that several of our neighbors have already asked for appointments. His fee is reasonable and when one considers the expertise he has, the cost is well worth it.

Very unprofessional and disappointing as we had used his services with satisfaction previously and therefore contacted him for a repeat service. Additionally, his pricing was very overpriced which we discovered afterwards. Derek informed us that he would be at our home between 10 and 10:30 AM. However, at 10:50 AM, no one arrived for the job or contacted us. I called Derek and was informed that he was running late and would be at our home in 30 minutes. I double checked with him and he confirmed he would arrive in 30 minutes. At 11:48 AM, nearly an hour after my initial call, I initiated another phone call to Derek to inform him we were no longer interested in his services. He informed me that he was enroute and I informed him that there was no need to show up nearly 1.5 hours after the scheduled appointment at 10:30 AM. At approximately 1200 noon, Derek knocked at our door and I informed him that there was no need to be here as we were no longer interested in his services.. He then demanded that I pay for his gas money to which I refused, and replied that I expect some professionalism regarding time and his response was, "What? Your trees going any place?" I informed him that I had appointments in the afternoon which he shouted I should "go then". I refused his services at which time he began cussing and dropping multiple "F-bombs". He left after I told him to leave. Very unprofessional and we will no longer be using or recommending his services.

Deriek did a wonderful job trimming all of the trees - well worth the price. Unfortunately his crew (family) didn't do so well. I still have some of the large haole koa trees alive that shouldn't be. The worst was the way the crew took the rubbish out of the yard. They showed no concern about my property and knocked things over and just moved anything that was in their way and didn't replace it. They also removed a couple cat print stones marking cat graves. Very inconsiderate. Another concern is that his staff (family) brought their very young children. The possible liability concerned me along with the children taking an interest in my things and playing with some of them. I would definitely hire Deriek again to trim the trees but I would find another method to remove the rubbish. The cost was high but I just wanted a professional job done including the mango tree which was extremely high and full. The trees he trimmed looked fine after his work and continue to do nicely now. Unfortunately, he had his staff trim some of the bushes and they took a beating but have recovered mostly. I still feel I got my money's worth as far as the tree trimming went.

I called Deriek to ask if he would trim coconut trees and shrubs. He was responsive but later that day said he was having transmission problems with his truck. He gave me someone else to call, which I did and did not get a text or call back. It looks like he also owns Tree Monkey Hawaii which has a lower rating on Angies List. No work was performed.

.Deriek was great! This is the third time we have hired him - two times at a previous house, and today at our new home. Everytime he has shown up on time, given great advice, completed the work quickly, and cleaned up everything (I think even cleaner than when he got here!). He and his crew are very hardworking and professional and we would recommend hiring him.

Derrick came on time with his crew. I needed branches, that were high up, cut back and also that they wouldn't drop and damage my fence nor land in my neighbor's property. They came with a chipper, cleaned it all up. Worked steadily and left the place cleaner than before. Very skilled. Kind of pricey, but worth it as didn't want a hack job nor have someone not insured.

See above. The work done was consistent with all the other reviews I read on Angie's List. We were not present when the work was performed, but we did meet the owner beforehand and he was very knowledgable. I wish I knew about this guy sooner.

We called Deriek because we wanted our hibiscus hedge removed so we could put in a fence. While we waited for Board approval and permitting for the fence, he hung in there and was attentive. As soon as we were ready he quickly scheduled time to come over and did a great job. In addition to the main job, which was removing a 45 foot hibiscus hedge, 20 years old, along with the heavy roots, he also trimmed 3 other trees just to make things easier for the fence guys and to fix some problems with another firm the trimmed our trees. Deriek was wonderful and provided great advice. He is a very knowledgeable man and very personable. He gave me all kinds of other great tips, but at the same time was very attentive to what my wife and I wanted to do. It is nice working with a man who loves what he does, he really cares about his work and has a lot of passion for trees. Great experience!

Deriek called me back within 24h of my leaving a message. He was by far the most knowledgable about trees among the four tree trimmers I spoke to. Tree Doctor is an accurate title for Deriek. His price was $400 cheaper than a quote from a tree trimmer who wasn't a licensed arborist. He came about a week after I first contacted him. I wasn't home when his crew and he came. When I came home the tree cutting was done. However they stayed well past dark cleaning up. He charged me exactly what he estimated. He truly cares about trees and the environment. He told me every time he cuts down a tree he gives a free tree b/c he wants to replace the cut down tree. He said he would get it to bear fruit in one year. This lychee tree hasn't born fruit in several years. It's hard to believe that he can get it to bear fruit, but so far he has done everything he said he would do. I'll let you know a year from now if I get lychee!

Third or fourth time Deriek has trimmed these trees. Job performed over two days with full clean up of property at end of each day. Deriek's work has always been professionally done. He discusses long term goals and plans for the fruit trees with an eye towards future crop impact due to trimming. Due to weather and amount of work the start date was delayed, but a minor inconvenience.

These guys are wonderful! They came on short notice, did everything I needed and more, and cleaned up their work area perfectly before leaving. I also asked for and received valuable professional advice on species that would work best to replace the trees removed. These guys really know their trees, and kept me from making an expensive planting mistake. I will be using them again soon!

I found Dierek(sp) via Angie's List and read positive reviews about his service. I wanted a reliable tree person as I had a negative experience in the past with a tree service company. Trees were not removed as I specified because this tree person informed me that my tenants requested how much to cut so these Neem trees kept growing as we noted when we inspected my rental property recently and that the roots of one Neem tree cracked the cement and it was obvious that the roots were taking hold under the cement. I had hoped that this tree service would offer to go back to the house to redo the job as my instruction was not followed. It never happened. This happened close to 2 years ago. I called Dierek and I found him knowledgeable and personable. He was willing to work with me on how much was a reasonable charge for the job. We negotiated. He did the job two days after I spoke with him. He called me the day after to give me a report which I really appreciated and he informed me that he will be sending pics via my property manager. I was most happy that he cut the growing mountain apple tree which was not initially part of our agreement. The tree was planted by my tenants without my permission and he volunteered to cut it for me without charging extra. He knew I was on a budget. I really appreciated it!!! He went beyond what we agreed. I highly recommend him to anyone reading this review. He can work with your budget and he threw in an extra which was unexpected. He said he was going back to the house to level the cement which cracked from the roots. I hope he does :)) Overall, he was professional, personable, reliable and gave the best customer service experience!

Deriek and his crew were efficient and completed the job in one day. They were very professional and thorough. They cleaned up afterward and provided me with some great mulch for the garden. I highly recommend them.

We were so pleased with everything Deriek and his crew accomplished. They got up into the trees with pulleys, without damaging the trunk and branches, and they even cleaned out the roof gutters while they were up there! Everyone was professional, friendly and kind, and treated each other with respect. I like that. Deriek is very knowledgable and gave us lots of information on plant care and maintenance. He's knows about local trees and plants and how to care for them in Hawaii. All the work was well-coordinated. It was fabulous to see those trees go into the chipper... and the bougainvillea too. And they left our property looking clean and manicured. They even cleaned up additional areas as they worked. It was all the extra care that was so appreciated by us. Deriek came back a few days later and planted a new lime tree to replace the one he removed. And recently, while he was doing a job for our neighbor (who hired him after watching him work), he gave us mulch for our yard (and applied it!) that he had just chipped from the tree he had cut down. WOW!! What a great guy! I highly recommend Monkey Man Tree Care.

Came when he said he would, removed the tree with no damage to anything in the vicinity, cleaned up before he left. Just what I wanted.

Provided a quality service, even removed part of the removed palm tree material besides the stump without charging extra.

We contacted Monkey Man Tree Care to have several evergreens and palm trees trimmed. Deriek responded the same day and we received the service within a week. Deriek and his crew are extremely professional and hard working. They accomplished what they said they would do and more. They basically ended up cleaning up our entire back yard (it needed it!). We haven't had this property long, and Deriek provided a much needed education on the trees and plants that we have. His price was more than reasonable and the service was exceptional. I highly recommend Monkey Man Tree Care and will be telling all of my friends to use them!

Deriek responded to the message we left through Angie's List within a few hours. We knew from reading the reviews of others that his price would be fair and reasonable, so did not ask him for any estimate before he came to actually do the work. He came as scheduled on Saturday afternoon, 10/25/2014. Watching him climb this tree and begin the work, we realized that this work would be NO EASY JOB!! As luck would have it, gusty wind began to blow about the time he got to the top of the tree. It swayed back and forth, scaring us watching from the ground level. But Deriek seemed unfazed by this danger, working long and hard to get this tree cleaned up very well. Though we told him he could just drop all the trimmings on the roof, he carefully lowered all the cuttings with a rope down to his apprentice below, who then disposed of them. When finished, he cleaned up all the small rubbish, including a lot of old stuff that the tree had been dropping on the roof, deck and walkway below for months and months. By the time they left, all the area around this tree looked better than it had for a long time! And the tree itself looked great, and must have been happy to have shed the hundreds of extra pounds it was carrying. Besides being very skilled at his work, Deriek is a really congenial and pleasant person to know. We've asked him to do regular maintenance on this tree, and likely some other trees on the property that will need attention in the future. By the time he and his crew left, we knew we'd made a new friend. He stayed and talked story with us for a while, as the afternoon came closer to sunset. We estimated they had spent nearly three hours making this tree and the area around it look really good. He will contact us again in about six months to groom this tree again, and recommend other tree work we may need. This takes away a big worry we've had, as finding good, dependable and reasonable service providers has always been difficult for us! We were extremely pleased with MonkeyMan Tree Care, and would recommend them to everyone who has any kind of a tree needing help. Though our problem was a coconut tree, they are able to perform whatever kind of service you may need for any kind of tree. Our overall rating of their work is A++!

He returned my call, came to look and gave an estimate. Explained what he would do and why (so the tree didn't die). Told me when he would do it. Arrived exactly on time, did the job and cleaned up wonderfully!

On April 18 work was to begin but they called in advance to rescheduled to start on the 19th (Saturday). Although they planned to finish in two days, it took three whole days, but they stayed until their work was complete. Also, on the last day they even removed a guava stump which was included in their estimate.

MonkeyMen, impressed me with the knowledge and experience because I had been disappointed with prior contractors. Derek, the owner, promised to do certain things and accomplished all of them. He also treated and pruned two Mango trees, two cherry trees and an avocado tree. His tree trimming expertise is unbelievable. He used a pulley system which allowed him to swing from tree to tree without the use of any ladders. I was very impressed with this. He is very accomplished in his work. Finally, his crew was very clean. They also recycle which I was very happy with. I would recommend him for jobs of all types and specifications. He is very articulate and professional.
