The best siding to cover brick is vinyl or metal siding. Vinyl is low maintenance and affordable, while metal is highly durable and offers some of the best insulation on top of brick. Fiber cement is another great option. Though you can install wood siding on top of brick, it’s not as ideal.

To clean painted aluminum siding, use a mixture of mild detergent and water applied with a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose to remove soap residue. For stubborn stains, cleaning aluminum siding with a power washer on a low-pressure setting can be effective. But avoid using high pressure, which could damage the paint.

You should consider acclimating the wood for your shou sugi ban siding for around two weeks before installation to balance its moisture content and prevent warping. That additional step will ensure your materials are prepped for installation, avoiding complex repairs down the line. Consult your siding contractor for additional installation instructions for this specialized material.

While any dark color of vinyl is likely to fade, dark red and dark brown vinyl tend to fade faster and more noticeably compared with other dark colors. White is the color least likely to fade, but it will show stains, mildew, and dirt more prominently than darker colors.
