"Nathan was professional and punctual. I was having several things done: change a lock, 4 to 8 new keys, adjust 2 locks for proper fit. He gave me honest options that resulted in me spending less money. I am super pleased. 85 Locksmith is my locksmith."

"I recieved a quick response to my servicemagic inquiry and scheduled an appointment for the next day. They arrived right on time and were friendly and attentive. They quickly got to work re-keying approximately 14 door locks. After some disassembly of all the locks the technician (not the main man, Ted, but a nice, young man trying to make a living in the locksmith business took all the hardware to his van and spent a couple hours re-keying. Everything was put back together and worked just fine. My only complaint: They didn't have enough keys on hand. I had to get some cut elsewhere to fit my needs. Overall: trustworthy, friendly, effective."

"I used Home Advisor on July 2, late in the evening. I was contacted the next morning by Hall's Lock and Key and an appointment was made to have the house locks rekeyed on July 3. Unfortunately, there were bad storms in the area that day. With the next day being the 4th of July, I was afraid I was going to have to wait to get this project done; however, Shane called and offered to come out the morning of the 4th. The work was done within 45 minutes. Shane did a great job. He is fair, honest, friendly, and knowledgeable. He is in the business to get lifelong customers. If you need a reliable locksmith, call Hall's Lock and Key."

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Over time, latch components may wear out or get grimy, leading to this problem. First, check for dirt, dust, or debris in the latch mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Use an aerosol duster and lubricant to clean and loosen. You may also need to tighten the screws in the component, adjust the strike plate, or replace the lock. If none of these steps resolve the problem, consult a professional locksmith.

When you take a key to a hardware store or a locksmith for copying, you can expect the key-cutting process to take as little as 30 seconds. The key copier will review your current key to decide on the correct blank. Then, your original key and the blank are inserted into a key duplication machine to cut an exact key copy. When it’s all said and done, you can have a new key in your hand in just a couple of minutes.

You might want to change a door lock entry code for a handful of reasons. The most common answers are extra security or a forgotten code. You may also find yourself in a position where you need to temporarily change the code to allow a guest to come and go freely but want to switch it back once things return to normal.

Many local hardware stores have the equipment to copy basic keys at a low cost. Some locations may have freestanding machines where you can pick out a blank and insert it and your original key into the duplicating machine.

Yes. Most deadbolts purchased from a home improvement store include a step-by-step installation template that is easy to follow, even for novice DIYers. One of the most important steps for successful deadbolt installation is having the proper tools to start with and carefully measuring prior to any attempts at installation.
