"HandyMack performed multiple jobs for us, so it is hard to choose categories above. Essentially they did multiple repairs prior to our selling our house. They repaired and replaced rotten siding and windowsills. They pressure cleaned and painted the exterior of the house. They installed French doors. They removed some drywall and replaced it after putting a new boot on the roof to prevent further pater intrusion. In short - lots of stuff. They were very prompt and responsive. I would use them again, and intend to when we move into our new house."

"Big Guy Drywall did an excellent job... even in the extreme heat in my garage where they were working!! A small section of tape started to sag the day after the work was done ( I had a massive dry wall collapse in what used to be my dad's radio shack), and they came out the next day and took care of it and fixed any other minor concerns I had! Also, they showed up FAST!! Drywall collapse was Wednesday, Andres showed up Thursday when I was cleaning up the mess from the collapse, and that afternoon his crew was there to put up new drywall!! It was a ceiling collapse, so it was more of a challenge than usual. I will call them in a heartbeat if it ever happens again-- which I hope it does not--- i'm tired of cleaning up drywall and insulation!!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can put drywall mud over paint to even out the surface or entirely resurface it. Sand the surface with 280-grit sandpaper, vacuum the debris and dust with a shop vac, and clean it with a slightly damp cloth. Allow the surface to dry. Apply drywall primer, especially if you’re skim-coating an entire wall. Apply the right type of drywall mud over the surface and smooth it with a trowel. Allow the layer to cure fully, then sand it before applying another layer or painting it.

Whether you need a drywall anchor depends on the specifics of your project, particularly what you're hanging and where. You do not need a drywall anchor if you can screw or nail the object directly into a wooden stud, as the wood provides sufficient support and stability. However, if there are no studs in the location where you plan to hang the item, you should use drywall anchors to ensure it is securely supported. For very lightweight objects, like small pictures, adhesive picture hanging strips can be a suitable alternative to anchors.

Yes, you can use drywall repair techniques for some types of plaster damage. Tiny holes and small cracks in plaster can be patched in similar ways to drywall. You apply the necessary compound to fill the hole, wait for it to dry, then sand it down. For larger damage, like water damage or mold, you need to use plaster-specific techniques and materials.

Plaster is denser, harder, and more porous than drywall, so it absorbs moisture differently. This means you’ll often need more prep work, such as thorough sanding, patching, and priming with a high-quality bonding primer. Additionally, you may need more coats of paint to achieve even coverage. While the process takes more time, it helps ensure a durable and professional-looking result.

A local drywall contractor can texture your drywall for you. Drywall contractors are a better choice than general handy people because the contractors have a lot of experience working with drywall mud. The process is somewhat of an art thanks to the complexity of working with the mud, so call in a drywall pro who knows what they’re doing.
