"I called and met with representatives from 4 different companies. I was in need of 28 pairs of plantation shutters on very large windows and also shutters on 4 full length French doors. Shelvy was not the least expensive but, Iâ ve learned through experience that so many other factors enter into a successful transaction. He was prompt for all our meetings. The consummate professional and extremely knowledgeable about his product. I live on a lake and he suggested shutters without a center divider so as not to obstruct the view. Fabulous idea. He also was able to use a high gloss paint finish to match my trim, at no extra charge. No one else was able to do that. The installation was seamless and the installers were professional and I was comfortable having them in my home. Because of the southern exposure and reflection off the water, Shelvy was able to recommend a level of window tinting that provided UV protection but did not distort our view. All in all this was a seamless project from start to finish."

"Did not recieve the estimate after the consultant arrived. When I called back received the estimate very quickly. However the estimate was over 20K for 15 plantation shutter windows which is about double any of the other estimates."

"I am extremely happy with every part of the experience with the Louver Shop. The salesman was prompt, courteous and very informative. The installer, Joe, was meticulous, very neat and clean with the installation. The plantation shutters are beautiful and I will definitely purchase more for the windows on the back of my house in the near future. The price was r=very reasonable. I am happy to highly recommend The Louver Shop"

Window Shutters questions, answered by experts

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.
