"I reached out to Daniel Foskey of Foskey Drywall, thru Angi list, after reaching out to several contractors in my area. No one called me back after leaving several messages. Daniel, not only reached out to me but came the same day to look at my ceiling and to give me a free quote. He returned the next day and started working. He completed the job in 2 and half days. The prep was excellent and took almost as long to do the job. He and his worker was very professional and respectful. They cleaned as they completed a step. Their was no debris left in the yard or on my front porch. He explained every step before, during and after he finished. He stressed that if I wasn't satisfied with anything to please let him know. That he would make it right. His business is located and hour and 15 minutes from Albany. He was on time and worked the entire time he was here. The price was very reasonable. If you need any drywall work done, please reach out to Foskey Drywall."

"The service was awesome. The guy that they sent out was new. He ended up damaging the wood of the baseplate to our bathroom vanity. My wife called and the owner came out and looked at it. He had a contractor come. He replaced it at no charge."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Plaster is a pretty tough surface, but it can still sustain damage from things like bumping against it, water issues, dampness, extreme humidity changes, and plain old age. Most plaster walls last hundreds of years and will only be taken down to the base layer when major repairs are required. Being cautious around the wall, not placing furniture against it, and ensuring stable humidity are all great ways to reduce possible damage.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

Yes, any parts of drywall that are wet or overly moist will need to be replaced. Drywall is intended to be dry (it’s in the name, after all.), as excess moisture can lead to mold and mildew and eventually corrode your home’s foundational building pieces. Do regular inspections in your home to make sure all your plumbing is intact and in good condition—this will go a long way toward preventing leaks.

Whether you can reuse a drywall anchor depends on its type, material, and how it is removed. Plastic anchors, such as expansion or self-drilling types, are generally considered single-use because they are designed to expand and are likely to break or become deformed upon removal. Metal anchors, like toggle bolts, are more durable and can often be reused if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle mechanism can fall inside the wall when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged or must be cut for removal, it cannot be reused regardless of its material.

There are several benefits to wet-sanding drywall, but the main perk is that it produces far less dust than dry-sanding. As a result, wet-sanding poses fewer health risks and makes less of a mess in your home. Plus, damp sponges are less abrasive than sandpaper, so there’s a smaller chance of scratching or damaging the drywall paper. Wet-sanding also creates a smoother finish than dry-sanding.
