"Ron with The Painting Pros did an amazing job painting the exterior of my home and staining my deck. Ron was the perfect professional having both deep knowledge about how to perform the job properly and how to explain the important details so I can make the best decision. The painting crew was professional and finished the job fast with perfect results. The Painting Pros would be my first and last contact for my future painting needs. I would highly recommend!"

"Lake City made everything so easy for me. Lacey and Marlon were so informative. I definitely learned a lot as well. Even when anxiety started to creep in with me being out of town for work during the project, they were able to keep me calm and convinced me to trust the process. Being able to track the progress in real time helped a lot with doing so. And in the end I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to for them to take on our next project! Months later and the house still looks like it got painted yesterday. I am obsessed with the final outcome and highly recommend Lake City!"

"We live in a 50+ year old brick home. The exterior trim and windows had not been painted in at least 17 years. We had some severe issues with many windows losing their glazing. I did not want to replace all our old windows as is recommended by most contractors. Rony and his crew jumped in and reglazed and painted all 240 window lighrs in our home. They repaired soffit damage, cracked window glass, repainted all wood gables, facia and gutters with great care. The house looks wonderful. We paid less than I expected to just replace all the windows! He was patient with us when we changed colors during the project and was so easy to work with. The crew was very courteous and very professional. This is a good cpmpany. Ben and Dana LaChance Dahlonega, Georgia"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.

Eggshell and satin finishes are best for porches because they sit in the sweet spot between scuffable matte and distracting high gloss. Your porch sees a fair amount of wear and tear, so you don’t want paint that’ll show every mark like matte, but you don’t want to be blinded by glossy paint in the sun either. Eggshell and satin have durability and a look that sits nicely in the middle.

Rags used with oil-based stains are highly flammable and can spontaneously combust in the right conditions. To reduce the fire risk, throw them in a metal container after use and add rocks on top to secure them. Add an inch of water and seal the container. Take the rags in the container to a hazardous waste factory as soon as possible.

You should refinish your deck to maintain its appearance, durability, and longevity. Refinishing your deck protects the wood from foot traffic and the elements. It also helps extend its life span by keeping rot, mildew, and termites at bay. By maintaining your deck, you can avoid the cost of replacing your deck sooner. A refinished deck also looks great and restores some of its original beauty.

It’s best to use an exterior latex acrylic paint to promote maximum adhesion to composite decking. This flexible paint type can better cope with the natural expansion and contraction that can occur with composite deck boards. Oil-based paints won’t adhere as effectively and are more likely to crack and peel as the boards flex. Testing whether your chosen paint will stick on an inconspicuous section or a spare board is a good idea.
